I just finished this top yesterday. I thought it turned out really cool. It was really easy.

I thought I would add another border but was not sure what color to add. Any suggestions?

I have mainly tied my bigger quilts but I thought that I would try and quilt this one. If I were to do a type of free motion quilting - would I work on one block at a time or what???

Thanks Teri

well I don't get to see it. can you resize it so the file isn't so big maybe?

Lisa 02-21-2008 07:18 AM

Teri, I really want to see your quilt but it wont download, can you try to post it another way? No, I don't know how or I would tell ya, I have to have my daughter do mine for me which is why I don't get to post alot of pics! lol

Teri,
Very cool. You did a great job and I love the colors.

thimblebug6000 02-21-2008 08:38 AM

That sashing really makes your colours pop, beautiful job. If you have an idea of who is getting it you could choose a fabric that would go with their decor. Some kind of larger flower with that same green and red tones that are already in the quilt?

Very striking! Love the black sashing!

I'd probably go with a red border, but I am not sure it needs one! I haven't done free motion qulting, so no advice here!

scrappinmad 02-21-2008 09:36 AM

I love it. Great colors and the black makes everything pop.

Great job

I love the black sashing with white seeming to frame on point inside. I don't think I'd add another border. In fact, I'd probably bind it in black. I don't have any advice to offer on the quilting. All I've ever done is really stitch in the ditch or tie myself.

Thanks for opening the file. I am at work now and I could not get the darn thing to open.

Thanks for all of the advise. I was really shocked on how it turned out - You should have seen my husbands face with just the blocks and then when I added the black( you would have thought I was a genius)(not hardly).

Thanks Bunches Teri

Beautiful quilt. I agree, dosen't need a sashing. I'd go with black binding. I do free motion quilting, and just a thought, but I'd meander it. The colors, speak for them selves. Maybe use a varigated thread for the free motion quilting. Of course you are a genuis to your husband. Let him keep thinking that. He'll listen to ya more,,LOL..........

Cheers

This is one gorgeous quilt. I love the black border and would suggest another, say in a floral or tone on tone in one of the colors, like red or green. I would like to see stitch in the ditch on this one. The design of the strings are so colorful and beautiful that any "fancy" stitching might take away from the pattern.

I love this technique and maybe after seeing yours, I will gather the nerve to try one myself. The black really makes your colors pop. I may try one with a deep purple to set the squares.

Great job!

It was like looking at my current project when I saw your string quilt. I am making scrappy quilts using the same pattern, but not including the sashing. I had been busy sewing squares when I took a break and saw yours.

A friend gave me a suggestion that I want to try. She used a Do-sew like product for her foundation so she could use a nice fabric for the center bar. She did a baby quilt and consistently put lavender in the center and pastels for the sew and flip pieces. She did this for color and so that her quality quilting fabric was not covered by the other pieces.

That is a good idea. This was so very easy to do. I have started another smaller one.

I completely agree with Rebecca---no other color is needed---and want to add my compliments to the rest. I just love your quilt, the black sashing really makes all the colors pop right off the quilt. I just have to make one of these string quilts, so pretty!

Have to agree with everyone, great quilt. I like to use black in my quilts too to make the colors pop.

Diamonds 02-28-2008 06:16 AM

I also love the black sashing used in it.. Makes the colors "pop"... It is awesome..

Hi there,

I saw your string quilt and thought it was absolutely gorgeous. A light bulb went off in my head and I thought "ah ha a way to use up all the extra strips from my other quilts" I hope you don't mind if I use your idea. I have almost all of the blocks done and will post a pic when I finish. I had enough different strips that no block has the same material in it twice.

Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!

i wouldnt add another border i think this is perfect just the way it is.. love the colors.. the black and the white compliment each other... beautiful....

DebbE 01-08-2013 11:00 PM

Lovely! Very striking quilt -- how about a wider piano key border just along the 2 long sides to bring the width out a bit more and then do the binding in the same simple black? Very nice!
