I was working on the sewing room this afternoon and getting very frustrated (what else is new) when I came upon some small leftover blocks and some 5 in squares that just seemed to belong together. Since I did not feel I was making much progress, I sat down and started in on some scrappy 4 patches and then added the blocks in between. I kind of liked it but it needed to be bigger - so added the strips. I think I will add another 5 inch sashing all around to make it a bit bigger. This will be one of my Foster Kid gifts for this year. Will make # 5 and I think I have enough blocks to make another similar to this one as it has kind of grown on me. You don't think it's because doing this sewing is more fun than cleaning do you?

Sewing is definately much much more fun than cleaning. Looks great!

I think it is still cleaning. You used up the blocks and strips and they aren't laying around anymore.

The quilt looks lovely!!

You were still cleaning, cleaning out the scrap pile anyway! Looks great!

Thnks for the compliments! Kyiav10 - I especially am liking your statement and I think I will use it when dh says "your sewing room looks worse than when you started. since you were sewing, I thought you had it all done". I can point out I used up some of the stuff that had been lying around and now that stuff is put away as well as put to good use. :P

That turned out quite pretty. How many are you goig to make? CLEAN??? That's becoming a dirty word to me here lately.

Barb M 06-29-2008 09:22 PM

That came out very pretty...do more cleaning and show us more pictures lol :)

tlrnhi 06-29-2008 09:58 PM

That's really pretty!
Now get to doing more cleaning! :)

How lovely is this quilt???? and so quickly made - what a great way to use up scraps, isn't if funny how some fabrics just seem to jump together and look right, while others you can never find the right 'mates'!! :D

Oh so that is what I have cleaning syndrome hahahaha Since I rather be doing something other than cleaning that must be what we all have.

Plus I just love the quilt and your foster child will love it too.

PamH 06-30-2008 02:49 AM

Rein I like how you clean.
Your scrap quilt is very cute :!:

Think sewing is much more fun than cleaning anyday. Quilt is so cute and you used up all those pieces. My DH says that all the time about my desk - I thought you just cleaned it. Don't think he looks in the sewing room.

I lOVE your scrap quilt. What a lucky foster child.

When I am not in the mood to sew (?) I love to "clean" my quilt room. (read "fondle fabric") Before you know it, I am at the machine, inspired by something I ran across while "cleaning". And then the room is a bigger mess than when I walked through the door! :D

Thanks to all for the comments. I do want to straighten out one thing - that I did not make clear at first. I do not have a foster child - would love to be a foster parent, but dh would not take it well. BUT, I do review cases of kids in foster care as a volunteer.

I also decided when I started quilting about 1.5 years ago, that I would make quilts and donate them to kids going into foster care over the Christmas Season - most often they enter with nothing of their own and receive few Christmas gifts (I also get the little gift cards off the Walmart trees and buy about 5 kids gifts). Guess you could say I am a sucker for kids. But I love doing it and it affords me good practice and a reason to be quilting other than I like doing it.

Oh yeah but look you did accomplish something...

I think the sewing should be considered part of the cleaning/organized process. LOL

Bevanger 06-30-2008 03:41 PM

I love it. My kind of quilt

mamatobugboo 08-17-2008 02:14 PM

i personally like your idea of cleaning...do you think the kids would get mad if I made all their clothes into quilts instead of washing them all the time??!!

rein 08-17-2008 02:17 PM

Hey - that sounds like a plan to me! You will get more out of them that way than by driving them to the Goodwill - LOL

Craftybug 08-17-2008 02:56 PM

God Bless your heart Rein, there is nothing more important than to bring a smile to a childs face specially during christmas.
The quilt came out very pretty.Good job

I like your cleaning method! Very pretty and loving quilt.

sewnsewer2 08-18-2008 02:25 AM

Pretty! Yep, it's amazing what you'll find when cleaning. Besides, it gets the juices flowing again.

reneebobby 08-18-2008 03:00 AM

Oh the quilt is very nice and I would say you made good progress in your cleaning. You cleaned up some material and made a quilt.

Bevanger 08-18-2008 03:50 AM

I had to chuckle as I started out cleaning my room too , but landed up finishing my scrap quilt.... It truely is better to sew then clean..... LOL
Love your quilt... Its so cute
