I think the sandwiching is the same as if batting was included (I still thread baste in a grid, the old-fashioned way, since that works for me). My mistake was using Aurifil for all the quilting. That was fine for the SITD, but I should have switched to a heavier thread with a sheen, like Glide, to have any chance of the stitching showing up in the setting triangles and the unpieced strips.

I hope you post pics of your quilt/spread when it's done.

They are both great quilts. I love paisley and 9-patches, so the first one is a winner for sure. But that OBW - Wow! You used perfect fabric for it. Stunning!
