Sublime Quilt Collage finished at last!

1 Attachment(s)
I started working on this collage before Christmas but last week finally finished the straight line quilting. It's called Sublime Quilt and is from the Collage Quilt-Along with Emily. I have made a few collages now and it's been a fun learning curve and experience. Emily also has videos you can watch on FB.

I hope you do one! The whole process has made me look at things differently. Leaves, flowers, animals, faces etc. - everything has different colours, shapes involved.
Have fun!

That is wonderful! I love your little blue bird.

Beautiful. I think the petals on the flowers are outstanding. They look so real.

I'm wondering how big your quilt is? It is hard to guess in the photo. I'm going to have to see if I can find the videos you are talking about online. Very interesting technique, and very well done!

You did a fabulous job! I joined Emily’s FB group as Collage quilting is on my lis of goals for 2019. I love how detailed her instructions are...I’m glad you enjoyed the experience.

Thank you. The quilt is 31" x 43." I'm glad you didn't ask how many little pieces are in the collage. LOL! If you're on Face Book you can join Collage Quilt-Along with Emily. She has videos there.

I have a pile of them to make this winter, too! I did the fox one first but changed the pattern as I didn't like the way the tail touched his eye. LOL! That's just me! You are going to have a lot of fun!!!

Great choice of fabrics! Very pretty.

Your quilt is really beautiful! To me, it is like painting with fabric to be sure. Did you find the process satisfying? Was there anything about making a collage quilt that you did not like? Will you make another? Thanks for your input.

sue.ross.8782 01-11-2019 07:05 AM

Thanks for the tips. your collage is fabulous. They sure bring the spring to the room in January.

While I love making quilts following patterns, it was so much fun trying something totally different. With a collage using steam-a-seam, one can try making a flower for example and if you're not happy with it, you simply remove it or make changes before ironing it down permanently. I do a lot of photography and after making three collage quilts I find I'm even looking at photos ops differently. Looking at people's faces I see various shades for example. After piecing together many quilts over time, the collage approach meant no sewing until it was time to either add a border or do the quilting! I am quite addicted to this process and have several projects waiting for me to begin. I did a poppy collage hanging and my husband wants me to make some for veterans. That is a project I can work on while camping this summer as I won't need my sewing machine along with me. I hope you try to make one! I absolutely loved making this Sublime quilt! In February I'm taking a class where we will take a photo of a pet and turn it into a collage. So I have our bichon shih zhu dog's photo ready to go! I also am going to try and make a collage portrait of our granddaughter who will be turning 3 soon! Yes, I am addicted to this, aren't I?

Sublime is the perfect name for your gorgeous creation!!!!!
