Suggestions on assembling these blocks please
 

Hi all,
I recently put together these fun, bright blocks. They are hanging on the design board in no particular order.

I'm looking for input on how to assemble the top. I have nothing in mind at the moment so I am open to all ideas.

What a wonderful day it has been - you see, dh is away for a few days so I decided this would be the week of reckoning. I would complete all three of the large quilt tops I had going. I was 'chatting' with a friend about LA one of the quilts for me and told her I would send a picture of the blocks and rows in progress. Well, much to my surprise and complete lack of memory, the top is completely assembled! And, it gets better. So were the other two tops!!! Woohoo. Guess I'll be going shopping for lots of backing materials.

I like the way it looks on the design wall and the blue take at to the quilt.... lol I think I would go with a blue boarder and bind with a scrappy binding left over material from the block.

looks great..watch that no two fabric are alike next to each other and just go for it...I would suggest sewing in sections..you know, 2 blocks, the 4 four blocks,,makes it go together so much easier

Oh the 'construction' of the quilt top I have under control. And believe you me, it is going to be a task that no two fabs of the same should touch. I have been moving those puppies around like nobody's business which is why I was asking for ideas about putting it all together - you know, sashing, mini blocks, blank blocks with applique, etc.

It is such a fun little burst of color and was trying only to create something from stash pieces. Alas, appears I may have yet another UFO :-)

And Scrapquilter is right on the money with the blue. I had been thinking the same thing since the painter's tape holding up my 'design wall' goes so well. <bg>

How could you go wrong with these fabulous, colorful blocks? Honestly, you could put them all in a bag and pull them out one at a time and sew them how you see them. Yes, the blue tape makes you think that blue IS the color to go with. But try red/orange or lime or yellow or..... You get my drift. If you want it larger, the same thing goes for narrow sashing, maybe pinwheel corner blocks in not sashing or border colors. Options abound with this beauty. Have fun with it - and DH gone. :) Excellent!

I like doing them with no seams touching...love the color you chose.

I think the first border (maybe 3") and sashing should be in the blue color of the painters tape. I like the lime green in the quilt, maybe use that for a narrow strip (maybe 1.5") and then finish off with another border (same size of 1st) of blue? That would make the quilt itself the showcase, which is what it should be. Great quilt!

Yes! That would be perfect! I love this scrappy little beauty & can't wait to see it done!

And P. S: allow me to show my ignorance here... is this a pattern or did you make this design up yourself? I love it!!!

I had one like that and put dark green blocks between each of the colored blocks. It double the size with no effort and calmed the quilt down. Is that what you are asking. I love bright scrappy blocks but your eye needs a resting place in order to take it all in. Think of nature--one flower--lots of leaves.

I totally agree, especially the border suggestions.

These are mostly "blues" - I would use a thin inner border of an "orange" - opposite blue on the color wheel and a blue outer border. I agree with an earlier suggestion of curves in quilting. I think concentric circles going out from the center of each block would be awesome. Good luck

These blocks are so vibrant, so full of energy, they almost beg to be set on pointe, just to add to the sense of energy and movement. Then you could use half square triangles of almost any color (love that blue), or more than one color (which would be my choice, up to 3 colors) to fill in around your blocks. Then a very vibrant narrow border, something from the quilt that really stands out and is noticed. I'd think you'd have to get the top together before you could "audition" for this part. Then a wider border for the edge; I'm thinking one of the lighter colors from the top. Then just for fun, a binding made up of strips of all (or at least many) of the colors in the top. IMHO.

Do you need it to be a little bit larger? If you do you could put a white, black or blue 1" finished sashing between the blocks and then a 2" or 3" border of the same. Then a piano key final border if you have enough scraps left.

Setting on point was not something that even crossed my mind - hence putting the request out on the board; there is so much talent and plethora of ideas.

I do love the colors and the energy the blocks give off; I am a conundrum to myself :-). I mostly do primitive colors, and lots of applique, but every once in a while I allow myself to journey into vibrant colors. They are so fun to work with. My avatar is a quilt I recently made for a quilt swap. It was a fun change of pace to work in those bold colors.

Burchquilts - I tried to find the pattern but my studio is in the midst of transformation. I will the locate the pattern and share it with you.

I agree with ScrapQuilter..... and this is my kind of quilt... I love the scrappie ones...... ;-)

I also think it is great the way it is... almost :) The second and third blocks on the bottom row need to be switched and rotated left one shift. Curves and diamonds are very nice, but this quilt already has lots of interest and beauty as it is. I wouldn't change it (more than for the two blocks). Great design!

a white or black sashing followed by a border that is bright! Love this one by the way!
