So I made this based off the winsome baby quilt but i made it too big to fit my machine's throat.....he was born today through a c-section and i need to get this finished! Any ideas on how to complete the quilting part of this?

If you can't get it to fit on your machine, you could tie it at all the corners of the squares. I think that would look cute.

I thought that but i was afraid if i tied it it wouldn't hold up to a baby....hand quilting may take awhile. nuts.

Well thanks to ya'll and ma berry (yuppers that's lisa) I'm gonna try to half tie and do turkey tracks around the edges in a pretty baby boy blue :) umm not til tomorrow though! lol i need sleep tonight! Thanks guys!!

How much does it not fit in your machine? Some of the new battings can be quilted quite far apart, you might be able to get away with a wide design.

Why not stitch in the ditch. You could do one half then turn the quilt around and do the other half.

I agree with tying it. You'll be pleased with how much the baby will be amazed with the strings on the quilt. Mom will thank you for such a wonderful attention grabber.

You'd be amazed at how much quilt you can actually scrunch and mash into that little throat. I've machine quilted a queen size quilt. BUT it's much faster to tie! you could tie, then just bind the outside by machine to secure it.

I agree with Joanne. I've squished a 108 x 108 quilt in my machine. If you do a meander stitch, it shouldn't take too much time. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be paranoid that when the baby got a little older, he might eat the ties. My GD almost choked on one of those ribbons that are attached to a pacifier.

I tie mine with embroidery floss. Just make sure you tie it with a square knot. You can also "bury" the ends in the quilt if you wanted, that way, the ends don't show. I've given TONS of tied baby quilts away and they are still tied. One thing I do tell people tho is...every once in a while, just take a check at the ties to make sure they are secure. Over time, they can come undone, but I've never heard of a problem with mine.

I like the idea of tying it. Tye it tight so it will be baby proof. Can't you just see those little fingers trying to get a hold of those ties. Great fun. I love the quilt design and the fabrics.

Very nice quilt! I love the colors! I would suggest handquilting around the name and the out line of the blocks, then tie the middle of the blocks and around the edges. If you use a something sturdy for the tieing and make sure it won't easily come untied, it should be fine for a baby. We're expecting our first grandchild in late September, and this quilt has inspired me!! :D
