Next Saturday I will be quilting this on the long arm machine at a local quilt shop. It's a top I made several years ago that my husband "claimed". I have done meander quilting on the frame I have at home, but have not used a long arm, nor have I tried a more elaborate quilting pattern.

This is a lap or throw quilt size.

I am looking for suggestions that will take advantage of the long arm (i.e. not simply stitch in the ditch or meandering that I could do at home) and would work well with the Bargello style.

Thank you!

That is so pretty. Good luck to you on quilting it

I would go up and down each color, from bottom corner to top of each section. this will give your quilt movement.
you can search here for pics or online for Images and get more views for more ideas.

Thank you for the reminder that (in the words of some teachers I know) "Google is my friend." I do see some things I like there. I don't think I can do the corner to corner style because of the large areas at the top and bottom.

beautiful quilt, can't wait to see it when you get the quilting design on it

Someone on here said that they always quilted their bargellos from corner to corner, in the way that it moves and I did that on all three of my bargellos and loved the effect. I know it's not too extraordinary to do with a longarm but it worked wonderfully and really brought out the movement in the quilt.

Yes, I've seen that, but mostly on bargellos that have small rectangles all the way to the border. I think the quilting in the red and purple areas on this quilt will need something else.

I'm not quite visualizing your suggestion. From where would you start?
