I have these blocks I did a few years ago that are to go on point. I no longer have background fabric for either set. There are 5 in each set.
They are appliqued hankies, suppose to look like butterflies, I think they look a little like birds

One idea - if they were mine, I'd pick my favorite color in the set and use that in a solid for the backing. After all, isn't the unique front the most important side? It will be a wonderful quilt!

Looks good to me.

If you add the antenna to the butterflies they will look totally different! I think I would put setting strips of a soft floral between them. They will make a lovely quilt! :D

Love the old hankies! I'm sure whatever you do it will be lovely.

Thank you all !! I will most likely put annte on ,but I want to figure out what to use for the sides & corner triangles since I no longer have the fabric I had used for the blocks. It was most likely used in another project or quilt.

These are beautiful. I just recently bought hankies to make my daughter a butterfly quilt. I think yo did a great job. I am going to just put mine at random on a top and add some material with flowers that butterflies like.

I found this site with the butterflies going in different directions. Thought maybe it could be an idea.

Thank you Sewcrafty !! I did check out the site & bookmarked it, so in a few weeks when I get ready to work on these I can go back for reference.
I also found a few more hankies, so I may try the other folding too.

If you could find the back ground fabric you could emboridery a butterfly on them and off set the fabric ones. I could not tell what pattern was on the background fabric. Sorry, I know this is not any help.

Are they handerchiefs? Lovely idea.

LAB55 01-10-2011 04:05 PM

Sewmuchmore, thank you ! I may find something close to the background to use, I did find a soft rose ( lots ) in my stash, willlay it out & see.
The one is a white on white & the other set is a off white /cream on the same color. It was fabric left over from making curtains for some one about 8 yrs. ago. It is a cotton blend.

A floral would look nice. Butterflies like flowers.

thanks for sharing. now I have another project in my roundtuit file. have many of mom's hankies tucked away in a drawer and always wondered what I could do with them. the butterfly idea really shows off the hankies. thanks again

Raggiemom 01-10-2011 04:26 PM

What a neat idea, they look so dainty.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-10-2011 08:20 PM

Beautiful hankies!!

Hi Lab55,
I'm thinking since the 2 backgrounds are different, and since the butterflies are all different prints, maybe a batik would be nice for the sashing strips. I would probably take them to a quilt store and audition them with various fabrics till one jumped out at me. (Which is how I came to have such a large stash). And yes, butterflies do like flowers so I might find some delicate prints to alternate solid blocks with these you have made-or for cornerstones.

squilter 01-10-2011 08:45 PM

I have several fabrics like these, you will send me a message with an up-close pic, I will see if I have some and if I do, you are welcome to it.

LAB55 01-11-2011 11:45 AM

truthsetsyoufree, I have some small floral print in my stash, one is a pale rose color w/ a small rose in an off white, the other is a raspberry background w/ a very small white flower & alternating very small blue heart.

squilter, I will try to get close ups, but at this time, I am thinking to use the 5 blocks for a focal point in the center & build around them, but I may change my mine, I have been known to do that :-)
Thank you for the offer, I will try to decide in the next few days & let you know.
