Summer Flip Flop quilt for Mom
1 Attachment(s)
My 95 year old mother lives in an independent living apartment. It's hard to find 'gifts' for her as she really doesn't want a lot of stuff. I've been making her mini quilts to hand outside of her apartment for (almost) each month. She really seems to enjoy these and shows them off to her friends. Here is the August quilt.

Thats a lovely thing to do, Im sure they make her very happy.

Love your mini quilt!!! So would one of my DDILs who is happy she lives in Florida now and no longer in Illinois because she can indulge herself with all the flip flops she wants. Love the colors, too.
very pretty quilt.
Cute, it looks like flip flops on a sandy beach.
Vey cute for her door.
I'll bet she is popular if she gives them away. Great way for a newbie to get acquainted and meet new friends in the new apartment setting.
What fun!!!

It really gives the sense of a hot sandy beach.
very cute!!!

Love the motion of the sand. BrendaK

What a great idea! That's such a cute quilt too. The colors look like summer. You did a great job.

What a nice thing you are doing for your mom. Love the flip-flops door hanging. Seasonal door hangings are fun to make. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice...thanks for sharing...
That is really a cute quilt!
Cute! Cute! Cute!
How neat is that?!!! It's nice of you to do that for your mom! That way she has a piece of you each and every month and she gets to share it with everyone else who walks by her room too!
That sure is a good idea. I know the residents eagerly await the change of the monthly mini-quilt! The flip-flops are darling.

Very well done. I hope others get the hint here.
My sister was long term in a hospital. The staff hung several quilts I'd sent her on her walls and from just over the door frame. Lots of people, including staff, patients and guests of the patients, came by to see them and ask about them. She and I got along even better after all of this, as she was almost 200 miles from the nearest relative and lonely. I also wrote her long newsy emails. One small quilt was stolen, but overall, she was reassured that she was loved. Somehow, I don't see the one she liked best. Tigger was stolen, so I made another. Mom Wow was for mother's day. I did not make her bed-sized quilts as she was always complaining about being too hot. the first and third are my own designs. |
Cute sandals for her door! :)
Nice job! Love the color!

What a great quilt! My mother is also in an independent senior living facility, and I have made her some door quilts too. However, I haven't done anything for summer, and your idea is perfect. I think I will get busy on it before the summer is over! Thanks so much!

Great summer quilt. I'm sure your mother appreciates all your quilts and making them for each month I'm sure she looks forward to the next new one. You are a very good daughter.
WOW that is so cute. So sweet of you to do this. Once we reach a certain age, it is usually restaurant gift cards and pictures of grandkids that makes us happy.
So cute. I'm sure she loves them. Holidays could be added to the months.
Adorable. I know how she feels about "stuff".
What a great idea for her. This one is lovely.
What a great idea. Something for her to look at, enjoy and share with others.

I think you did a wonderful job. I made two with flip flops for the months of the year. I hand echo quilted
around each pair of the flip flops. Jan was snowmen, Feb was hearts, April was umbrellas, May was flowers, and Sept was pencils, and so on. I made 12 blocks, it turned out great. |
So bright and cheerful....I bet they all enjoy your mini quilts!
Very summery! I like your flip-flops.
Cute as can be..
Very nice mini quilt. I understand why she would show them off to her friends.
Sweet! Cute shoes!
