Table extension
 

I purchased a tray when I bought my Bernina (about 18? yrs.ago) This tray is made 1” higher in the back than in the front thus making the machine sit at a forward slant. I’ve used it this way for such a long time that it is just second-nature to me and I forgot to mention it. Maybe a lot of you know about this neat little aid to sewing but for those who don’t and would like to make your own table extension you may want to make it as such or you might want to try it out first. I find it very helpful. This pic shows what the finished ext.bed will look like and as you can see it is higher in the back so naturally you'd have to also put something under your machine the same amount in height as well. I hope I am explaining this well enough, if not....let me know. And for those of you who do make new cases don't forget to post pics....you know we would want to see them!!!!

You should have brought it back when you got the machine since it was defective! Glad you adjusted to it.

sorry I wasn't clear on this but the tray wasn't defective....I was purposely made with a 1" slant so it deliberately raises your machine at downward tilt at the front of the machine. It's purpose is for the viewing of the presser foot. I really works nice....I'm one of those that it takes a bit to get used to something 'different'.

Just saw an ergonomics vendor at a quilt show that was selling custom tilted trays that could be made for any sewing machine.

I think I would like the slant once I got use to it, thanks for sharing.

I remember seeing some members in our quilt group using rubber door stops to raise the backs of their sewing machines to create a slanted machine bed for better viewing while sewing. I am not very tall, so I have great view of the sewing area on my machine and never needed such aids.

I use the rubber door stops for my machine. It tilts it forward just enough so it is easy to see the sewing. I got 2 door stops for $1 at the dollar tree.

I, too, use doorstops to lift my machine. I also use them to tilt my computer keyboard.
