Table Topper with Little Pieces
1 Attachment(s)
Sometimes it's fun to make something small and intricate. This table topper is only 16" square and the center block has 361 pieces (19x19 grid). The method I used was to fuse 1" blocks, raw edges touching, onto fusible interfacing. The instructions are from the book "Mini-Mosaic Quilts" by Paula Doyle. The author said to press the seams open, but I just clipped the seams instead. I used my new walking foot to cross-hatch. I'm happy with the results and love this method of using fusible interfacing. Please let me know if you have done any piecing this way too! - Nancy |
looks great!

I pieced this one that way: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t234304.html
But my squares aren't nearly as small as yours. I do love that process. Yours is wonderful. |
I have two containers full of 1 inch squares cut out. May have to try your method for them. Love what you done with yours.

I have a piece of the 2" marked fusible imterfacing but not used it yet. i like your pattern. I just put together a lone star with the quiltsmart and had a lot of trouble with it but it looks good.

So let me see if I understand. I don't see raw edges in your quilt so once you fuse do you cut the fused squares into strips and then sew the strips together, then cut resulting resewn patchwork into strips going perpendicular to your seam lines and sew those together?
Your mini is so cute and how tiny is that cross hatch? |
Very cute!

It looks great! I have not tried that method, but maybe I will now.
|
Very pretty. Lots of pieces.

Very nice. I used the fusible interfacing for the Mondo bag. I made a large one and a smaller one. Love how they came out.
|
Oh Boy!! If I were a nine year old girl, I would be wanting that so much for my dollies. It is fantastic.
|
That is one cute mini quilt! You did a good job with the fusible and tiny pieces. Thanks for sharing.

Good job! I love the looks of tiny intricate pieces, but I don't have the patience to use them in every project.

I made a tubular Santa by using that method. Makes the matching so very simple and the outcome is flawless. Like your mini.

Very nice table topper.
|
That is a great little topper !!!
and yes....ever since the "Watercolor Quilts" craze from many years ago i have done dozens of quilts with the fusible interfacing method. It can be a great time saver as you can sew very fast and still get perfectly matched points and corners. The only thing i do differently is that i slice the seams open and iron them open. Anyway, I'm sure i'll do many more that way in the future too. |
Very pretty ... never tried this method. Love the colors of the fabric. Thanks for sharing.

Fabulous job! Love your quilting.
Yes, I used fusible interfacing that was printed with a grid, used 2-1/2" block, and made a ginormous tote. Sewing the seam together and then will post a pix. It's a cool process. |
Super. BrendaK

Here's a short YouTube video that explains the process. It's fun, accurate, and quick too. My cross-hatching is about 1/4" apart.
http://youtu.be/aR8CgI7Wz44 That is a really neat way to piece--especially when your pieces are small |
