I have that book and almost did my last quilt in that Spiral pattern...now I will definitely do one! That looks very very nice and thanks for sharing!

sherriequilts 12-17-2010 05:44 AM

what a super way to do pinwheels which I truly to not like to do! Your quilts ate both brilliant.

Nita 12-17-2010 06:01 AM

Very, very nice ...... I especially like the Hexagon quilt. I bought that book a couple of years ago and have not made anything from it yet (It just looked like a neat book at the time). I guess I better go shopping for layer cakes and get a goin'! Was it hard to make the hexagon? It looks tricky.

sandpat 12-17-2010 06:24 AM

Both turned out beautifully!!!

No, it's very easy. You cut the 10" pieces in half, then cut a 60 degree angle from each end of both halves - you need to keep those offcuts from the left hand cuts separate from the right hand cuts for when you come to put the pieced border together. Then arrange your layout, obviously matching the half hexagons, and they are stitched together in horizontal rows. Then you join the rows together - easy!
My only problem, as always! was deciding on the layout of the different colours and patterns....

Katrine 12-17-2010 06:28 AM

Thank you everyone, glad you like them!

I've done a previous quilt to this pattern, but I wasnt really keen on the fabric I used, bought in a sale. So I am much happier with this Spiral Steps and looking forward to quilting it.

Nita 12-17-2010 06:32 AM

Sounds easy enough ...... though I'm not crazy about sewing on the bias ...... I'm one that will avoid it whenever possible. And I suppose that gorgeous border involves triangles and sewing the bias edge too, huh?

Yes, all of the above are the same designer - I love their designs too. They have some good patterns on their website.

I've never had a problem with that, and didnt with this either. Just careful handling and it will be okay.
