Hi everyone, i decided to take a quilt class to learn something new and to get me out of the house, and hopefully meet some people. Well it's been fun so far, I can't wait for the next class, since i go in only once a week. I was having super problems with my tension in my embroidery machine, but i finally got it  So now i'm having a blast using my emb. machine. In the class we are making a snowball quilt. I decided i didn't like the emptiness it gave in center so i put this embroidered rose. The block is a finished 12 1/2 and i also did a mirror of the rose. I thought i'd post to show how its going so far. Next week we are going to put all the blocks together, then the following week we will be doing the binding. I CANT WAIT I'M SO EXCITED. Sure enjoying myself tremendously. Happy quilting everyone. I'll post more about it as i get things done. :D

Denise,
That's going to be a beautiful quilt. The snowball/nine patch is a fun quilt to make.
Looking forward to seeing your completed project.
Have fun!

I love anything in red. Those roses really make it! You're going to get an "A" in that class! lol

Simply gorgeous! I love that you used your embroidery to embellish the block. It sure makes that block "your own"!! :)

Celeste 10-06-2007 07:19 PM

Oh! How pretty! I love that you put the rose in there!

Gosh that is really pretty....great job and love the rose in the center.
I just started the snowball quilt also, mine has 7 1/2 nine patch and center blocks. I am wanting to embroidery butterflys and dragon flies in the block where you have the rose. This pattern is really fun to make, want to try making a baby quilt one day using this pattern.
Thaks for sharing your work.

The bright embroidered roses are such a nice contrast to the background. I guess I'll have to add a sewing machine that embroiders to my "want" list! It's going to be a beautiful quilt!

beautiful quilt. aren't quilting classes fun???? i have taken several because i learn better by seeing it done and having others nearby to learn from. i would encourage anyone who can to take at least one class. such a nurturing atmosphere. kind of like being in a room with all of you.
thanks for sharing. enjoy your class.

I love your project---love roses and love the colors too. I just got a book from thelibrary on embellishmenst and that would be the perfect pattern to try some of the tips in the book. Thanks so much for posting it. This forum is great because everyone has a new technique or seeing their project jogs your memory and we say "why didn't I think of that!" Thanks for sharing.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I'm really enjoying the class, I took a class some years ago, but wasn't happy with it. I and other students felt like we were rushed through it and it was a queen size which most of us thought was to big for a beginners class. Anyhow this class i'm taking now is great and the teacher is wonderful with her way of teaching. I also learn better seeing the demonstration done in front of me, though i read alot of hints and tips from web sites and books. I learnt a new tip which i'd like to share also with you. I never knew about this one. Maybe someone would like to try this . Margaret (teacher) doesn't cut all the pieces off after sewing the square block to corner. She just removes the middle part. This way she says incase if you dont sew perfectly in center of this corner block when you press it should line up with the main block to corner. Hope this makes sense...sorry i'm not good at putting words down when i try to explain things.... So i'm posting pictures hope it helps someone.

That certainly looks better with the roses that it would look without them. You have a very pretty quilt. sounds like a nice class.
