I pieced this together this weekend. It is for one of my girls teachers end of the year gift. I am pretty happy with it. Now off this week to get the backing.

That's a really really nice teacher gift!!!! I have only done a quilt for a teacher once, it was for my girl's track and cross country coach in High school. The quilt was a gift from the track team when DD#3 was the head senior on the team. Each girl paid $5 toward the cost of making it and I had them each sign the quilt for coach.
What a generous gift you have there, and beautiful too. |
Wow Mamabird that is a very sweet gift. Teachers always deserve a little spoiling for all the hard work they do. She will love it and treasure it too.

That is a great block pattern. It looks good in that color too. My DD is a teacher and I know she would be thrilled to get a quilt from a student's Mom. Very nice of you.

That's pretty! I love the double pinwheel effect in that block pattern.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments.
There is a tiny bit of a story behind giving her this quilt. Last year I made Marys (my 1st grader) teacher a reversible tote bag as a end of the year gift. Saras (my kindergartner) teacher was a co-teacher in that class. I made a quilt for the kindergarten class with their self portraits on it this year for an auction. So Saras teacher tells me last month... "you know you have to make me something this year too". lol I asked her what she wanted. She said it didn't matter, she likes everything I make. So I figured what the heck... and she is getting a quilt. She is a great teacher. Kids adore her and so do I. After Annies (my 5th grader) experience with a not so wonderful kindergarten teacher I am so thankful for a great start in school for the other two girls. From experience I would say that your first teacher has a huge influence on the rest of your schooling. I volunteer alot in that school and I think they have one of the hardest jobs, as well as the most fullfilling. Now the only problem with making this quilt is.... Mary will probably have the same teacher next year (fingers crossed) as she did in kindergarten. lol And those two are best friends and very competitive.... so I guess I better start thinking about next years quilt!! Have a happy Day! |
Nice Teacher's gift!

It's beautiful!!! What a lucky teacher! What is the name of the pattern? Is it done on-point or straight set?
I like the different designs you can see depending on how you look at it. ranger |

What a wonderful gift for your daughter's teacher. It is beautiful. I love the squares and the colors. Certainly better then the perverbal apple, ;) . Something for her to cherish her whole life and remember how much her work was appreciated by her student.

How wonderful! But you do know that you are setting a precedent! Each year will be a challenge for you to do something more!

i really like this quilt. :D
I wanted to say how nice of you to make gifts for the teachers. My oldest daughter's MIL is a teacher of challenged children. I don't know about other states, but here, they are trying to mainstream all the kids, which is ridiculous, not to mention, how unfair to the children. But the up side to this story is, Frances is an absolute gem, for a teacher, and she has been at it for over 30 years. She has endured it all. Her average day, besides the usual classroom stuff, involves, potty training, nose wiping, spit and drool cleaning, pad changing, paying for food sometimes, and regularly being yelled at, (tourettes syndrome) and cursed out. I don't say this lightly. It is not meant as criticism about the children, but to say how much I think she has done over the years, and although all teachers are not as dedicated as she is, there are more like her out there. The closer retirement gets, the anxiety increases. She is so worn out, she has been having panic attacks, bc she retires in one month. I wish one of her kid's mom, were as considerate as you are. Thanks for sharing. :D |
Very Pretty!!! Your girl's teacher will love her new quilt :D :D :D
|
Very nice quilt. What a great teacher gift. Bet they will love it.
|
I would absolutely lose my mind if I got such a wonderful teacher gift. I think I would probably cry. So many times we teachers only get the complaints and abuse that any act of appreciation is wonderful but this gift is above and beyond. Your daughter's teacher is very fortunate.
|
Wow!! I wish that I was your girl's teacher. :)
|
What a wonderful gift for a teacher. I love the pattern and the colors and I'm sure she will too, FORVER. You're a sweet giving person, like most quilters. We do what we do best, right?
|
Wonderful gift, she will be so happy to receive this!
