teaching my sisters to quilt

3 Attachment(s)
I've created a monster! In a good way, of course. My sisters Rose, Sue and I have been quilting together. Making raffle quilts and gifts for family members. I no longer get anything done, but it's OK. It has been a "healing" time for us too as our family has been fractured. Must say there have been some times I wanted to speak my mind, but the goal is to create harmony in the family. We even named ourselves the Sweet Sisters Quilters from an vintage ad for Strawberry Jam.

Here are my sister Rose's latest creations- Christmas gifts for her gs and in-laws.

Sue's quilt is the raffle quilt, drawing is Thursday night. It is Strip Twist from Quiltville.com. It is one of my favorite patterns.

We are working on 2 more quilts- 1 for each. I expect Sue's to be pretty awesome- if I must say so myself. Rose has one more kids quilt, simple but backed with fleece for fun.

I've been working on wips. Don't want to start anything new until I can get 2 or 3 done.

Awesome!!! What a wonderful time in your life to enjoy your sisters and share quilting! Your projects are beautiful!

Tartan 11-29-2011 07:24 PM

Other people may come and go in life but sisters are your lifelong friends. I have 3 wonderful sisters and although they don't share my quilting habit they do appreciate quilty gifts. It is great that you are sharing your quilt expertise with your sisters. I hope you have many bonding moments over your shared activities. All 3 quilts are so different but so great! I bet they reflect each sisters personality.:)

I just got my sister "addicted" to quilting this year and we are having a blast - even my mom and my BF are quilting now ! Just think of the memories and stories to tell

The quilts are awesome :)

You have put some beautiful quilts together, especially the angel quilt. I envy you, because I do share the love of quilting with a sister and sister-in-law, but they both live 350 miles away and so we don't get together to quilt. Lucky for them, they only live 30 miles apart and one of them has a long arm, so they get together quite often. We do a lot of emailing ideas and pictures back and forth.

Beautiful quilts. I love the angels and monkey quilt. Enjoy each other for as long as you can. Think of the memories you are creating and more memories yet to come.

They are off to a good start. There were 5 of us sisters and 4 made quilts. Ok, little sis only made 1, but she can do it.

Ginknee309 11-30-2011 01:57 AM

Very nice! So glad you are passing on the quilting tradition.

annthreecats 11-30-2011 02:01 AM

Nice quilts. Love the story about all of you quilting together. I don't have any sisters. Always wished I did.

Love your quilts, and I can see those monkeys aren't going to to hungry. My Mom just got my sister involved in quilting. Time for her to quit lurking.

suebee 11-30-2011 07:59 AM

Wow! you girls have been busy. Great job!

Landers 11-30-2011 08:11 AM

I can understand how you feel. I only wish I had a sister who live close to me that I could spend the time with. My family lives in Texas and our children live in California. If there was any family member that wanted to quilt with me, I would jump to do it!!

hyper violet 11-30-2011 08:49 AM

luvstoquilt 11-30-2011 09:13 AM

so happy for you and your sisters. Sisters are so special. I only have one and she is not well. She is an alchoholic and was sober for 12 years. Recently she has fallen back into her old habits and is now not bothering to speak to me. I love her dearly and cling to the hope she will come back again. Meanwhile I treasure the wonderful times we had during her 12 sober years.

mighty 11-30-2011 11:58 AM

Beautiful quilts. Enjoy your sisters!! Always wished I had a sister!!

Floralfab 11-30-2011 12:38 PM

The quilts are beautiful. It's so nice that you have each other to share the love of quilting with.

katigirl 12-01-2011 12:48 AM

I understand. I've been spending a lot of time with my neice and great neices quilting. None of my own getting done. But we are having a wonderful time. It has been really difficult for my neice since my mom who raised her died last year. This seems to help.

lovingmama 12-01-2011 01:52 AM

Love your quilts, wonderful work!

Jingle 12-01-2011 06:48 AM

Very pretty quilts. We need lots more quilters, glad to have two more.

Shirls4sons 12-01-2011 07:09 AM

OMG I LOVE the angel quilt!!

Motorcyclemad 12-01-2011 07:44 AM

These are awesome. When you feel the need to scream, just remember that not everything is an afront against you. Also, you enjoy what you are doing and that this is something that you can share with each other.
You can tell them Great jobs by the way.

Susanna10 12-01-2011 07:48 AM

One of my grandsons is soooooo monkey crazy. Your angel quilt is beautiful and I want to crawl under your Christmas quilt

Iraxy 12-01-2011 07:58 AM

I am so excited because 2 of my friends have been morphed into quilters! I have been quilting for about 20 years now and have made no secret about how relaxing it is to come home after a hectic day at the clinic and just sit and sew for a few minutes. One of the nurses there asked if she could come home with me one day and see what I was doing. She thought it would be hard but took on a log cabin quilt to start because she got some 2 1/2 inch strips. It turned into a beautiful quilt and she was ecstatic. My other friend wanted to kill some time and decided to make a pot holder during a rare snow storm while she was visiting me and could not return to Houston due to the roads. She is now an award winning quilter. Happy happy. Now I have two wonderful friends to share my joy with.

ChildoftheUniverse 12-01-2011 09:20 AM

I'm glad you have sister's to quilt with. Congrats on being able to bite your tongue when needed I know this can be hard with sisters some times. It looks like you are doing a great job of teaching. I love the monkey quilt best.
