One of my favorite things to do is help a new quilter to get started. Over the years I have had the opportunity to do some one-on-one teaching that has turn out some really good quilters. Well, a couple of weeks ago on our mini-retreat one of the ladies who went with us was really a beginner. I along with the other two ladies helped her make this quilt. I find this "Potato Chip Quilt" to be a great beginner quilt.

Didn't that come out great! Great teachers and obviously a talented student! McQ...is that a cairn in your avatar? I've had three cairns over the years and they are just wonderful little friends!

She sure is and isn't she a doll. I re-homed her after she was found as a stray early last June. We feel she might have been a victim of the terible flooding we had in May.

In my neck of the woods we call that a Rainy Day Quilt - you start and finish it in a rainy day afternoon.

Same idea - you can't eat just one Potato Chip.

It is a fabulous beginner quilt.

For a different take, you can make an awesome looking quilt with very little effort. I like to use two big prints together - and then see what happens.

Good for you. It's wonderful to have a great teacher when you start out. I love the floral fabric she used. Great job

Love it! I haven't heard that design called 'potato chip' but I do like the way it highlights fabric design. Good job for all 3 of you -- and how satisfying for a newbie to get something nice accomplished right away.
