Tessellated Texas - at the Local Library

1 Attachment(s)
Our local quilt guild (South Plains Quilters' Guild) does not put on a quilt show. Instead we hang quilts over the upper level railing at our downtown library. They stay there for 2 months.

I snapped this picture during the morning we hung the quilts last week. It is called "Tessellated Texas," and the pattern was designed by Jackie Reis. Notice how the Texas images are nested (the beige ones are upside down). Jackie said she got the idea from some Texas shaped garden tiles that could be nested.

Jackie visited our guild last year, and I was able to get the pattern. I am waiting until my skills increase before I try it. The curved seams will be a challenge for me, but also skill in keeping those pieces organized. If I am lucky, the person in our guild who expertly made the quilt on display will teach a class using the pattern!

Here is a link to a Texas quilt shop that sells Jackie's pattern and a kit:

I don't blame you. I am also chicken with trying to do a curved seams. One day I must step up to the challenge.

Great quilt and I love tessalating patterns! She needs to replace the pattern picture with that quilt.

Jackie is retired. I don't think she is involved at all in the marketing or sale at this time, but I agree that the picture of the quilt hanging in the library is superior.

Although I haven't lived there in a long time, I still consider myself a Texan (born in Lubbock). Thanks for showing this clever quilt.

I bought the pattern, at the Houston Festival, a couple weeks ago, from a shop in Paris, TX. Not sure of name.

I've always been fascinated by tessellations. This is such a great use for them. Fun quilt! :)

Those lucky residents of Colorado and Utah when it comes to tessalating their state!

caspharm 11-15-2015 10:37 AM

That is a cool quilt. Definitely requires thinking through for placement.

I lived in Texas for several years and want to agree with Tartan, yours is much more Texas-ish. You got the Texas colors perfect. Did you remember a bluebonnet? (FYI-for those who don't know, Texans are crazy for the bluebonnets, the state flower.)

redquilter 11-15-2015 04:51 PM

That's neat.
