I was so afraid to wash this fabric for the backing of my daughter's quilt. She doesn't like pink, flowery, or girlie and I was worried that the apples would turn out pink! The only thing that came out pink are the color catchers.
I threw in 2 color catchers and it worked great!! I washed it on warm wash/cold rinse. Whew!!! |

I got them at Walgreen's in the laundry section. It's made by Shout, I believe, so they should be widely available. It looks like a box of dryer sheets.
I love Color Catchers. I get them in my laundry isle at my local grocery store.
I'm thinking if they caught that much color in the first wash, there may be a little more loose dye in that fabric. You might consider soaking a scrap and see if it's color-fast now.
I could wash it again. I left it in the dryer a little longer than I meant to so it's too dry to iron easily.
This is the first time I've used the color catcher so I don't know what's a lot or not. Glad I tried it because I have a bunch of dark red/white fabric for a planned quilt that I will definately use it for. |
Those color catchers are fabulous. I use them everytime I wash a new quilt. I get mine at Walmart. I learned a lesson the hard way.
Wow, those worked great. Look at the pink in the color catcher. It certainly did it's job.
Hancocks has them too.
I found them at our Walmart. They are life savers!
WOW I never use them ... maybe I should
I had two pieces of fabric that had been washed and dried before I realized the white had turned pink. I had never used color catchers before. Bought some and rewashed the fabric and lo and behold it caught all of the color and the white is white again. I'll never wash new fabric again without a color catcher in the washer.
Good to know that it works after washing and drying too. I have some fabric that I washed together, blues and yellows in a FQ set, and the yellows came out a little dingy. Going to try and wash them again.

I had never heard of these color catchers but they will now be on my next shopping list! Thanks for sharing Ladies!
Aren't they great!?! I use them every time I prewash the fabric, and then again when I wash the finished quilt. I've never used more than one though.
I use them all the time - wouldn't be without them.
They are great. I use them all the time.
I read on the box to use one or two sheets depending on whether it was new fabric, or a lot of it, or dark colors, etc.
It was 6 yards, I think, of new fabric so I used 2 of them. |

Wal Mart would have them cheaper than any other store. I buy mine there, cheaper fabrics don't normally bleed so much.

Boy, I really learned a lot today. Wonderful information to have, will definitely share with my quilting friends right away.
I use them all the time as well...get them at Meijer's, WalMart, Target...most any place in the laundry aisle. I use them in new clothes that could bleed and have saved myself on that too.
Love 'em! Use them all the time now. A couple of them in a wash saves so much heartache!

I get mine at a local Hanaford's grocery store.
Cheaper than Wal-mart. I couldn't live without them. I use the same one twice. I've even washed white fabric with darks. & no change in the fabric. Had to check out if they really worked. :-D |
I'm going to be using them more now that I've tried them. Just hate it when you have clothing that is black and white and after a couple of washings the white looks gray.
Even on cloths that you wouldn't have thought has been losing color all this time.
I wouldn't wash without them!! |
I need to get some too!
I love using those things. I will usually toss two of them into the washer with my quilts!!!
I use them whenever I wash a quilt. Love them. I have washed twice when the sheets come out dark and I think they made fade more.
Thank you for posting the pictures! I am glad that it worked for that pretty fabric :D:D:D
I love color catchers....I made my brother a quilt with 40 different reds & then white stars......I used 2 color catchers and they were bright pink but my stars were pure white....Whew.
