I loved the Digital Quilts site....I'm still thinking. Again, thanks for all the nice comments. I'll come up with something.

Love, love, love these pics. You are a great photographer.
Thanks for sharing, Kutnso |
How about a photo quilt? The photos are beautiful.
Those pinks and oranges should certainly inspire some color choices, at least! Beautiful!

Marymm,
With all these talented ladies on this web site I'm sure ur going to get a great on how to make your quilt with these beautiful birds & colors. Sorry I can't be of much help I've just started quilting recently and have a lot to learn. It would be interesting to see what kind of ideas you get. Blessings,,,,,, |
would be a wonderful quilt to applique or piece
Great pictures. I am a city girl, are all these birds Egrets?
really enjoyed those pics. someone else will have to figure out and do the quilt - I'm not anywhere near that good!!
Ggreenridley...The white ones are egrets. The pink ones are Roseate spoonbills. I believe these egrets are Snowy Egrets. Great whites had left area. We also saw quite a few cattle egrets in breeding plummage...none in these photos. Actually there were several other herons and others at the site...It's interesting to see how they all share the same area, with nests within a few inches of each other. I'm a bit new at birding--though I have a lot in my yard--cardinals, jays, sparrows, chickadees, hummingbirds, wrens, warblers--even a couple of kinds of woodpeckers. Today I saw a robin and often we have others that pass through the area.

Great pictures.

What great photos... thanks for sharing!!
Great pictures of some very beautiful birds.
I thought twice before posting these photos, but you all have made me feel good! Thank you all. Now I'm trying to decide how to come up with an applique or something even more creative....maybe a crazy quilt?
Great pictures, and lovely birds.

Your photos are wonderful. Photo number one would make a wonderful center for a quilt - appliqued and pieced. I would have it blown up and then trace the birds and make your pattern. Also photo transfer for a middle panel would be nice as well. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos.

WOW!
Super gma, your granddaughter did a great job! Everyone, thanks. I'm going to print up the suggestions and then get to work on some programs to simplify the photos. I see why Audubon was so fascinated with birds. I wish I could paint! I have one flamingo quilt I designed (at least I did the center, but it was for a round robin.) It is sort of a simple folky-almost design, but I do love it and the other folks in the round robin did a great job. mary

Some of God's beautiful creations.

Here's the YouTube link that shows how to make quilt labels (colored) using freezer paper and fabric run through your computer printer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mH2R...feature=relmfu My niece just made her first quilt about "Romeo and Juliet" using this technique from photos she found on the internet. Her blocks were about 8" by 11" (or slightly smaller). This technique really works for beautiful photos. You can embellish as needed to make the photos pop using applique and other quilting techniques. Why not consider it? |

I can't wait to see it done......
if you google flamingo quilt patterns you find some intersting ones i just plain googleed it i was thinkng of doing one for my brother that lives in florida
Minnow, I think that would be a great gift for your brother. I have my flamingo quilt hanging in the entryway now...
You could aways print them out and then, cut them out and use as an applique..
another idea! thanks
The roseate spoonbills and the green water-- that's a very pleasing color combination!
I have recently seen something done like this from pictures.
(1) blow the picture up to the size you want (2) take teracing paper or a thin paper and lay it over the picture (3) draw a grid of squares off on this paper (4) remove the paper and lay beside the pictures and then label or color with color pencils the colors each square should be (5) replace the paper on top of the print and begin piecing from the grid using the colors you choose I hope this makes sense. |
Laquita, That's a very good explanation. Have you ever heard of "The Supper Quilt"? It's a huge depiction of The Last Supper painting and uses a similar technique. It is the work of a North Texas dentist. I have found a book that I think will help me with a quilt, once I decide which photo to use. The board has been just full of great ideas.

I really enjoyed seeing these photos, great shots!
