I'm back quilting again. I took a few weeks break so I don't get burned out.

I have a delima. I need to make this 10 inches longer. It is 60 X 60 right now.

Do you think it would look ok to put a thin border of the rose on at the top and bottom and then a wider row of the flowered on?

Any suggestions?

kathyd 09-20-2008 02:29 PM

Yes that could work. Or... you could add a pieced row at the top and bottom then add a solid border. So far it looks very nice.

jstitch 09-20-2008 02:31 PM

Just me, but I think it is hard to make a square quilt into a rectangular quilt without it looking odd.

Why not just add 10 inches both ways and have a 70 inch square quilt?

But if you must, maybe put a row at the top and bottom, then add an equal amount all the way around..

Not sure how it will turn out, but it will be balanced

Nice job, by the way.....congrats on a beautiful quilt

sewnsewer2 09-20-2008 02:35 PM

Thanks. I don't think I can handle a 70 X 70 quilting it on my sewing machine, it might be too big for me to handle. It was a kit so I'll have to get more fabric for it.

Beautiful quilt.

Does this look ok, or should I connect the gold fabric circled?

jstitch 09-20-2008 04:29 PM

That is exactly what I had been thinking, but didnt know how to describe it to you..

I think this looks good.

Very creative solution...

keep it...

That's what I'm thinking. It already has solid borders, so adding more without blocks to break it up is overkill.

mrsj82 09-20-2008 05:50 PM

Very nice way to make it work. I think it's gorgeous btw. And for a laugh, I thought the pink was a border, then realized it was the carpet color...hehe sorry about that...

But it's a good solution, I say keep it.

It is a beautiful quilt - with and without the added bit. I am like you - I just do not care all that much for square quilts........ to get them long enough for beds today - they become problematic.

I think you solved your problem well!! Carry ON!!!

sewjoyce 09-20-2008 05:56 PM

It's beautiful :D

zyxquilts 09-20-2008 05:59 PM

Great solution for a beautiful quilt

sewnsewer2 09-20-2008 06:20 PM

Thanks everyone. More eyes are better than just mine.

Did you notice almost every quilt matches my carpet?

CissyQuilts 09-20-2008 06:24 PM

That is beautiful! I would add another rose border all the way around.

bj 09-20-2008 06:49 PM

Very nice quilt. I like the look of it after you added your borders...I also liked it before :) :) !

I agree with CrissyQuilts in Alaska.....another rose border all the way around would be quite nice. :D

looks great to me!
It's beautiful!!!!!

Another fantastic quilt from you, sewnsewer! I love it! Looks like your break was very rejuvenating! Your solution is perfect and does not distract from the center pattern as a wide, unbalanced border would. I would connect the gold where you have it circled, yes, but that's just my opinion (and I mostly make 60 to 70 inch square quilts, but they are not for beds).

Oh, your quilt is so absolutely gorgeous! I would connect the gold border too, just so it doesn't look like it's just sitting there alone for no reason? But either way it will look just perfect! :)

sewnsewer2 09-21-2008 03:46 PM

Ok, I'll connect the borders. Thank you all so much!

gcathie 09-21-2008 04:02 PM

Good luck ....sounds like you have a solution....sure is pretty

sewnsewer2 09-21-2008 05:44 PM

Thanks. I just finished fixing it. :D

Minda 09-21-2008 06:23 PM

I love what you did with the border, and I would connect the gold.

reneebobby 09-22-2008 03:13 AM

Oh is that pretty.

abacus 09-26-2008 02:29 PM

I realize I'm too late for this quilt, but next time you have the problem think about making a pillow cover. I have seen quilts that repeated the pieced section, attached to the regular quilt. With the extra piece and the inherent sashings and borders, it would increase it the amount you need.

Clear as muc??

abacus 09-26-2008 02:30 PM

That should be clear as mud!!

Incedentally, the quilt is a winner!!!!

02ba quilter 09-27-2008 07:15 AM

I would add a thin plain border, then add a bigger border of one of the colors in the middle, maybe the pink. It would still be square, but bigger.

kd124 09-27-2008 09:30 AM

The quilt is beautiful! I love the way you resolved your problem. Looks like that is how it was intended to be.
