Things i made my newborn daughter
3 Attachment(s)
My very long awaited daughter Adelaide Rose was born on wednesday morning a 6:11 after 11 hours of easy peasy almost no pain labor! She actually delivered herself pretty much as she was just too eager to come out and didn't want to wait any longer lol! Her quilt i have been hoarding fabric for 10+ years waiting or her to be on the arrival train but i finished her name banner the day before her birth and her car seat cover the week before. I hand embroidered the car seat cover; padded satin stitch for the "please", satin stitch on the "do not touch me" and regular backstitch for " if you didn't help make me then". I also embroidered each flower petal on the hydrangea bloom. Not too happy with it as it looks better closer up but from far away the variations in color don't show as well. I quilted down the seams of the embroidered panel so it holds together nicer than the one I had made my son 2 years ago. The name banner is rosebud fabric i found at joann's, machine appliquéd letters with hand quilting around and i made the bias binding with a lovely perfect matching polka dot i found in my stash. I like to add a vintage vibe with a crochet lace trim as well. I only have 5 blocks done for her quilt but they are hand-embroidered, half hand appliquéd and then machine appliquéd so they were a little intense. Once i at least have a quilt top finished i'll post pics of that too :)

How cute! You probably had to sneak your handwork time in while the 2 year old was sleeping. Children grow up so quick, I know you will enjoy these.

Wow, those are lovely. The name is so pretty and prettily done up for the room. In a grocery store one time, a lady pinched my 18 month son's cheeks and said what a cute little monkey. He didn't talk plain, but I understood him perfectly as he shook her hand loose and said, "I no monkey". People really do presume a lot sometimes.

I wish I'd of had a do not touch sign. Of course it doesn't help with those that can't read:< We were in line to pay at the checkstand. My daughter was sitting upright in a cart at Walmart and she had to be no older than a year old. I turned for a second, looking at something on the rack at the checkout, to find a complete stranger feeding her french fries from the McDonald's that was inside the WM. AAAACCCKKK!

Sweet, like the cover.

Congrat's on your new baby daughter she sure will be cherished by the look of her room and he new handmade things. Enjoy her and the 2 yr old and all the beautiful things you have made. Sue

Wow those stories are crazy!! People are way too comfortable touching babies; makes me nuts!! I thought this saying may even be a little too much but so far it's working. Leaving the hospital the nurses were so intrigued by the cover and even touching that they didn't bother my princess lol. So far success! Yay!!

Congratulations on your baby girl....LOVE the car seat cover !!!! Wonder if i could make one for my DS and DIL....they are expecting their first in April....after a 10 year wait !!!!!!!!!!!! RE: the "touchy / feelies".....I think it's the same strangers who think it's ok to touch your belly before the baby gets here !!!!!!!! ALL THE VERY VERY BEST to your family.

I found quite a few tutorials on pinterest for the cover and simply designed my embroidered panel for it. Easy peasy. Although it took almost a full skien of thread just to do the padded satin stitch on the "please" portion but i wanted it noticeable lol i thought the hydrangea might make it seem a little nicer than the screaming i have behind it of "keep your paws off!!!!!" Lol! I still have to finish her mobile too. Next on my list :)
