Third of my Row by Rows...

It was love at first sight when I saw this row! It's an exact replica of the Mississippi Delta at sunset... so beautiful. The "cotton" is made with cotton chenille. The shop that created this row is the Cotton Blossom shop in Madison MS.

I like the sunset colors. And the cotton balls. I see the changes in the rows according to where people live around the country.

A real beauty of a row. I spent Christmas and some time before and after last year, a first time for me. Many beautiful sights, even if I did almost freeze to death as my DD told me to bring capris, a light jacket and short sleeves. It was in the low 40's when I got there and it didn't get any better. But, I still had a great time. Lots of nice fabric stores too.

Bravo!!!
Did you get the row from Gautier? |

Did you get the row from Gautier? Ibex, if you are going to make the Cotton Blossom's row, I need to tell you some things about it. The instructions are very incomplete. They only give the length of the pieces, not the width. 1) All sky strips are 2.5" wide by 36.5" long... then you wavy cut them, all but the very top one. 2) The ground piece (brown) needs to be 4" x 36.5" long. If you got the kit, you need to trim the brown 5" wide strip they give you down to 4". Don't waste your time covering 5" with cotton bolls and then have to cut it down when you realize it's too wide, like I did. 3) No help is given in determining how much to overlap your sky strips or how wide the sky should end up. With your ground 4" wide, then the 1/2" black strip at the horizon, that leaves you only 5.5" for sky, for everything to end up 9.5" wide when sewn together. Good luck! Are you posting your rows as you get them done? |
This is a fine RxR segment. Good for you.

I haven't started on the rows yet. Too many UFOs, lol, so I am in accumulation mode. I will post in your thread if I manage to get any of them done in the near future. I haven't made it to Gautier yet but have plans to head to the coast before the month is out. Thank you for the heads up on the instructions... Did you mention these problems to the folks at the shop? They are likely to change up the instructions to make it easier on folks.

Beautiful sunset!

I did tell them there were no dimensions for any of the pieces given, or finished dimensions of the entire row, when I first picked up the kit. So they put a sticker on the package telling you to cut everything down to 36.5". But the other problems weren't discovered until I actually made the row. I feel funny calling them again with more corrections.... ;)

That's one of the prettier Row by Rows I've seen so far. Very nicely done.

Your row by row "row" is beautiful. I love it when the row actually has a wonderful meaning of that area. Sure wish I didn't live so very far away.

Love the sunset row, great job.
