Three Doll Quilts for Christmas
6 Attachment(s)
Each year I make doll quilts to be packed in shoeboxes along with other gifties for my favorite charity. They are sent around the world and it's cool that you can track your box to see what country it ends up in. I have fun imagining the little girls who will delight in playing with their new doll and quilts and other goodies. I've included the fronts and backs in these photos.
I always name each quilt for a girl or lady who has had significant meaning to me. This year I went through 4 months of physical therapy on my shoulder. My therapist Kathleen was always cheerful and encouraging and pushed me toward healing. I felt I could fly like a kite again after PT. This quilt reminds me of kites. Here's "Kathleen": The one with elephants and umbrellas (or, as I like to say, "brellies and ellies") is named for my sweet baby granddaughter, Eliana. The entire past year since Nov 19, 2018, when she and her twin brother were born, my heart has been 1000x bigger. Finally, the violet vase quilt is named Viola, after my 3rd grade teacher in KS who passed away in January this year at the age of 95. She and I had kept in touch since 1975, if you can believe that. We had a special bond and she was like a grandmother to me. These little quilts provide fun ways to try out new skills and use up bright scraps to make both front and backs a joy for a child to see. PS Looks like I should have picked some threads off before photographing. Oops. You never know what's gonna show up after you think you're done! |
Fun projects Zo! I recognize some of those fabrics. :)

What nice gifts to send. There will be some happy little girls out there and it's cool that you can find out where the gift went.
I had to laugh at your comment about the threads. I always find a picture shows me something I don't see with the naked eye. :) |

Which ones? I was hoping some of you all would pipe up and say you recognize some from your stash! I've had many of those 2.5's for years!

I love your little quilts. I make 'pillowcase dresses' to put in mine.
