these will go to charity. i used the embroidery feature on my machine for some of the quilting. the rest is simple straight-line on diagonals and/or in-the-ditch.

each is approximately 5' square.

i guess i should've pressed them for the pics but you know me ... i was too lazy and impatient.

Beautiful job Patrice, I love the embroidery as quilting. I just knew you'd get to quilting some of those fantastic tops you turn out one day  ! Well done, must feel good! And what a sweetie to give them to charity. :D

Beautiful embroidery. I like the pattern of the first quilt (blue/orange border).

Beautiful.

Chele 11-02-2009 03:18 AM

They look great! I love the colors on the far left quilt. So cool that your embroidery function on your machine can quilt those beautiful designs! Wow!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-02-2009 04:09 AM

I love the quilting. That's very elegant looking.

reneebobby 11-02-2009 04:10 AM

Very nice

patricej 11-02-2009 04:17 AM

i "cheat" by making oversized blocks. the tops go together much faster that way.

the orange & blue is made from only four Interwoven Puzzle blocks. Connie Hadba picked it for us back in Feb or Mar 2008.

by making the patches 4" x 4", one block comes out 32" square. ;-)

Beautiful quilts, Patrice, and I really like the embroidery as quilting. Hmm-another new idea to try. Thanks for posting the pattern for the over-sized block; this will help with a couple of gifts I have to make. Thanks for sharing your pictures and for everything else you do to make this board a success (esp for rapping my fingers when I get on one of my soapboxes!) Your quilts are beautiful.

quilter girl 11-02-2009 05:25 AM

Lovely :!: Did you have to "hoop" your quilt to do the embroidery designs :?: Or did you make your blocks with embroidery first :?:

tlrnhi 11-02-2009 05:26 AM

Those are pretty!
Dang, you sure are busy!

pocoellie 11-02-2009 05:29 AM

Those are very nice!

Nita 11-02-2009 06:28 AM

Wow!!! These are charity quilts??? They are gorgeous. I unashamedly admit that my quilts for charity tend to be much, MUCH simpler.
Thanks for the pattern info. I've bookmarked this page for future referrence

Shadow Dancer 11-02-2009 06:36 AM

Simply beautiful!!!

patricej 11-02-2009 03:30 PM

thanks very much. :-)

one of the hoops that came with my machine is designed especially for quilting. it's more sturdy and the quilt sandwich is held in place with magnets. it can still be a bit of a battle when i'm using the warm & natural batting, but with a super-low loft (such as Quilters Dream's lowest loft) it hoops without much of a struggle. in fact, when i use the QD, i can use all my hoops without much extra trouble.

the machine includes several quilting patterns but most of them are very small. i've been downloading like crazy from this site: http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/product...mbs=Emblibrary;Quilts&ShowTop=true

they have kaboodles of nice quilting designs - usually in three sizes - for all the embroidery formats. their prices are not half bad. (if i pay for a design you KNOW it must be a good price. i'm so cheap my skates won't roll! )

i'm a bit of an oddball when it comes to making things for charity. i have hard time giving away something to a stranger that i wouldn't want to use in my own home. (not that i haven't had many turn out that way. but i send those to the kitty shelter. sick cats don't care whether or not fabrics coordinate or points join perfectly, or if they're puckered up like a toothless drunk. they just want something warm they can curl up on or throw up on. or both.   )

also, i pick the quilts i make because i like them, or because i want to try something new, or test a new design. most of the time they don't "fit" anywhere around here. selling them is more work than making them. giving them away is easy-peezy.

and - let's face it - i'm a showoff. i always hope that whoever gets it goes "Wowzer!". and if they don't ... i'll never know the difference.

Dix 11-02-2009 03:53 PM

Wow, I would hate to give them away. They are lovely.
Blessings to you!

Same question. If you hooped it, how did the back turn out? I've thought about using my embroidery machine this way, but didn't know how to get around the back.

mytwopals 11-04-2009 07:11 AM

Nice job. I really like the blue and orange one. :D

butterflywing 11-04-2009 09:03 AM

these are wonderful. do your colors come from stash or do you buy them especially?

also, when you say three down, does that mean that you're planning even more? what energy!  ahh, to be young and energetic.

patricej 11-04-2009 03:05 PM

energetic? spurts of energy surrounded by hours of sluggery.
young? i love your for saying so! :P

the orange & blue have been in my stash for ages. the same goes for the red/white/blue. the navy floral was a fortunate find for only $2.98 a yard. i mixed it up with yellows from my stash.

i don't usually buy fabrics for a specific quilt. everytime i need something specific, the search turns into work and frustration.

soooo ... most of the time, i just buy fabrics i like and then design a quilt to use them. much less stressful. :P

amma 11-05-2009 06:00 PM

WOW!!! Lucky people to receive these beauties!!! Great use of the embroidery machine!!! :D :D :D

mpeters1200 11-05-2009 06:31 PM

I have a similar take on charity quilts. I don't like to use patterns or fabrics that I wouldn't want to give to my best friend or have out for company.

Great job!!
