The first two quilts are my baby bargellos done years ago and they are from Bonnie Hunter's patterns @ the Quiltville site. Thanks to Bonnie for her great contribution to quilters and quilting everywhere!

This next quilt is preemie #1 done two days ago and is a Medallion Quilt that became popular after 1840. They were usually done by well-to-do families because the center panels were imported from France or England. I chose the Medallion style because it's quick to assemble. Camera doesn't show the true color but the next picture does.

Very nice!

n2scraplvr 02-09-2010 09:39 AM

Did this one yesterday. It came together quickly using a printed panel for the ctr and in the stash also found two panels of hearts for a border. Wasn't quite enough so had to put in the four cornerstones. The pieced blocks were UFO's put to good use here. Used all but 6. Paid no attn to color placement. They were done a long time ago. The 4-patches for the corners were premade too as I like to keep them handy for projects like this. All these are for Project Linus and will go to Haiti. Contact the closest chapter of PL if you have any for their 10K quilt drive.

Hope I've inspired you to make some preemies to help the babies. Takes 3-4 hrs to do one. Next I'll be sandwiching them, HQ and binding. Will do one more preemie before shipping. The babies have noone else but us!! lol. Thanks everyone for looking and your kind words! :D :D

They are all great and what a worthy cause. I like doing quilts for Project Linus too.

those are pretty

I belong to Project Linus here in Texas. It is a VERY worthwhile effort, and a great outlet for love for babies when our own grands are teenagers, now.

n2scraplvr 02-09-2010 02:11 PM

Thanks Beachlady, Jewelps and Toto's Mom! And yes, it's a GREAT cause! Keep thinking about the woman I saw in Haiti under a tent caring for over 100 babies/toddlers by herself! Wish I was there to help, but this is the next best thing! Thanks, everyone! ;) ;)

You've been busy!
Like your idea of 4 patches made up. I like to have 9 patches made up ahead, but they're made of 1" squares so are well--tiny!
Have you seen the tute on quick 4 patches using 2 larger squares? Think I'll try it.
Later, G

They are wonderful! great use of scraps! don't you just love quiltville and bonnie!

Oklahoma Suzie 02-09-2010 03:38 PM

Hi G! No, haven't seen the tute on quick 4 patches but already know how to make batches of them at a time being all the same color. Trouble is I want to make batches at a time of all scrappys! lol. It's a real cool method of sewing vertically and horizontally as I recall. Think it was from http://www.firstsuite101.com but lost all that info when we restored my computer back to day 1. No, I think it's just called "suite101.com." We didn't know how to save my favorites list so lost all that data on quilting.

I keep tons of two patches made up just to do nine patches. Have a stack of three patches made up too. Learned from quiltville's site to see the nine patch block in two's rather than three's. What a big difference that is! The last patch added is the single one to the corner of the block that determines whether you want it 5 dks/lts or 5 lts/dks. So I make some with 5/dks/4lts and some in reverse of that 5lts/4dks. Love those 9-patches but don't think I can handle those 1" blocks as well as you! Mine would look like zigzag city! haha! Let me know about the tute - may have to watch since I can hardly remember exactly how the other one went! lol.

Thank you for all of your pictures. I love your quilts. I especially like your Medalline Quilts, they look nice and like you said, are quickly made. My guild sends baby quilts to Crisis Pregnancy Center here in Kennewick, WA. We send lap quilts to Wheels on Meals seniors and also for hospice. All worthy causes! It is a privilege to bring some beauty into these peoples' lives. Linda

Thank you so much, Linda! That was so nice of you to say about loving my quilts. It's for the joy of others that we do it! It's super of your guild to reach out to the community in different areas! We are to cast our bread upon the waters in many different ways! And...nothing compares to the joy of giving! I couldn't see just giving out a single quilt as the impact is better when there's a stack! I think about the years I could've been sewing and doing more and stacking up then. It takes so little time to do something nice but how I've missed the opportunities. Yes, the medallion quilts make up fast. We all have something in our stash that needs to be used up! Was so happy to use these things up but at the same time wanted them to be the best for these babies. Thanks again! Kind words go a long way.
