Three Quilts for Hurricane Sandy Families

3 Attachment(s)
I finished these three very simple quilts for children and will send them off on Monday, for Hurricane Sandy victims. Hope they can serve as hugs from far away, for some little people who have been through a lot....

I am sure they will be appreciated. I live in an area that was hit pretty hard, as we are 1/2 mile from the water. My family were lucky as we sustained no damage, just inconvience. What I saw while driving today was pretty sad. Almost a month after the storm, there are piles of people's lives on the curb for pick up. The sanitation trucks was picking up on a Sunday. I'm having a hard time fathoming what it must be like for an 84yo woman to have her house gutted, and all her furniture out at the curb. My mom's friend was in an area not close to the beach that was flooded out from a creek not far from her house. I can't even imagine what is going through her head. Furniture that was 60 years old? Ughhh..

barri1, can't imagine how unsettling this was for the elderly, losing their households. I'm glad your home was spared.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. They also need pillowcases, so I might try to make a batch of them too. We all have fabrics we aren't going to use in our stash. I figure, 'Why not put them to good use?'

Great quilts for a super cause.....What a Blessing you are. Could you give the pattern name for the pink quilt?

I don't use patterns. I cut pink squares 8"... and the bright colored ones were cut 8.5". I stacked the brights and cut vertically and horizontally, off center, cutting the stack into 4 smaller rectangles. Then I mixed them up and sewed them back together, making them 8" like the pinks. Then I laid them out as you see them. I quilted on either side of the block seams, and quilted big flowers in the centers of the pinks. Hope that helps you figure out how to do it.
