Tie quilt flimsy finished

A friend asked me to make a quilt using her dead husband's ties. I'd made one 3 years ago for someone else, but most of her ties were polyester. These were all thin silk ties and stretched every which way. There are lots more wrinkles than I am happy with, but it's done. Also, I should have spaced the red ties better. Never again!

Nice job with flimsy fabric!

That silk had to be difficult, but your friend will love it for the memories.

Very nice...thanks for sharing.

Looks great without wasting much of the tie. Using some fusible interfacing might have helped you with the slick ties.

I used Steam-a-Seam. I thought that might be easier to handle than fused interfacing. But maybe not.

I agree with ManiacQuilter. Using fusible interfacing would have made it much easier to work with & the silk would have laid flatter & stable. The quilt is beautiful.
