When my children switched to a regular bed I just took a thin mattress from a cot and put it on the floor in front of the bed so that if they fell, they would have a soft landing.

There was NO TONE in my email nor was ANY offense taken. aH one of the joys of email...... NIce bed by the way :) This one also has rails top and bottom but it is not as high as this bed more like yours with NO box spring.. so much closer to the floor. I can definately see how a fall from your bed would be concerning. Yeah I said toddler bed all along.. not converter. NO worries. I am not the least bit offended it takes a lot more to do that :) and life is too short for most misunderstandings. :) Appreciate your opinion on it and the pics .

My daughter is 21 now but when she was little I bought a fitted sheet for her bed that had length wise pockets into which you slid inflatable bolsters to "encase" the child. They were soft and it worked great. I have always thought the pool "noodles" would work great for this purpose too. I like your idea as well. I would like to see a pic though. I don't have a good vision of how it will work.
