Went to my Guild meeting this morning and stayed all day to take a class.

The instructor was Betsy Chutchian who wrote the book Gone to Texas
Quilts from a pioneer woman's journal. The pioneer woman she writes about is Lizzie one of her ancestors. She went through Lizzie journal and created quilts from her writings. In the book their are parts of the journal so one can read and follow the history durning that tine period. From 1857 thru 1882.(Civil War Period) in Texas. This book has some good history and story behind it.

In class we did the"Nine Patch and Crossroads quilt". I used some of my reproduction and civil war fabric.

Our classroom inside the church There were 25 students

Yes the class was fun I got to meet more mebers from my guild. We are oer 125 members so hard to meet everyone. Had a great time.
I want to finish this top before the year ends will show my progress as it goes on.

The top behinsd Betsy and I is her sample for her book. Hope mine looks like hers when it grows up

She talked to our guild and showed her samples from the book and talked in detail how her book came about. A book worth buying.

Bevanger 11-22-2009 07:06 AM

looks like you had loads of fun

grammy Dwynn 11-22-2009 07:33 AM

Sounds like you had a wonderful day.
Can't wait to see your 'grown up' (finished) quilt

bebe 11-22-2009 10:54 AM

Yes you know how us quilters are. We are never satisfied with the original size. I want it for a lap quilt so it is going to measure 58 1/2 x 71 1/2. I need to make 58 9 patches and 41 Croosroads instead of 29 9 patches and 19 CR.
In total that is 99 patches. Am I insane or what

joeyoz 11-22-2009 10:57 AM

It's a beautiful quilt and what a great way to spend the day. :D :D :D

bebe 11-22-2009 01:38 PM

Today I am working on cutting more blocks and plan to sew this evening. I do not want any more UFO's so I am going to try to finish this top before the year ends.

crkathleen 11-22-2009 02:49 PM

Wow! That had to be so fun!

Shemjo 11-22-2009 03:10 PM

How wonderful that you were able to attend such an inspiring day! I love going to classes, but have so many UFOs that I am resisting for a bit. When my guild has national speakers/teachers, I really try to get all the knowledge I can to save up for when I can use it.

Sharon M 11-22-2009 07:23 PM

What a wonderful time for you to experience! :D
Your quilt is beautiful and I love that time period. Makes your quilt all the more special.
