I just got this top finished for our nephew. I have been trying to decide if it needs another border, perhaps in a maroon or a burgundy. Its a good size as it is, he will be 9 yrs old in a few months.

Thanks!

The whole quilt

I love it like it is, but would also look good with maroon border. very pretty!

MamaBear61 11-19-2010 05:19 AM

It looks great! If it is big enough you could just bind it with the deep red colour, but 9 yr olds are still growing so making it bigger won't come amiss either.

RevPam 11-19-2010 05:19 AM

No no no no no! Leave it as is. It's beautiful right now!

cjomomma 11-19-2010 05:21 AM

Oooooo! I like it. I think another border would be great. Do you have fabric similar in color to the red in the quilt. I love how you put sashing around each disappearing block and how each block is different. Gives it a nice clean, smooth look. You did a wonderful job with this quilt.

I don't think I have enough of a dark red to do another border but I am heading to the fabric store Monday to get the backing fabric and of course add to the stash so I will look.

This was my first D9P and I am real pleased with how easy it was and how nice it came out. I still have 2 more to do, this time for girls and an applique quilt to finish. All that before Dec 6!

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions!

If it was mine, I would add the additional border.

Mariposa 11-19-2010 05:39 AM

An additional border in a darker color would be nice, though it is great as it is too!!!

queenpola 11-19-2010 05:39 AM

IMAO I would add another contrast-border, although it looks great even without it.

I agree with this, being a mom to 3 boys lol
It's a beautiful quilt either way!!! Great job

In the bottom of the first picture you can see what it would look like with a deep red/burgundy border around the green...and that looks just awesome! I think I would go with that. Overall, it's beautiful...love your fabric selection, colors, pattern, etc. He'll love this!

Prissnboot 11-19-2010 08:53 AM

I think a maroon border would bring out the reds in the quilt, and it won't necessarily make it THAT much larger. Besides, as someone else said, he's still got a lot of growing to do before he finishes loving this quilt! I've been loving a twin size quilt my mother made me for over 30 years now - in fact, just last night I snuggled under it while watching Grey's Anatomy!

belmer 11-19-2010 09:51 AM

I would add another border, perhaps something darker.

I love the fabric you chose. Holly Taylor is my favorite.
This must be the moda Classics!

Well, you know how fast those 9 year olds can grow so I would go ahead and add another border...maybe even 2. A narrow light color and then the maroon. It is a very nice quilt. Looks really good for a boy!

I think the maroon or burgandy border would look awesome on this quilt. You did a fabulous job on it. He will love it.

M. Wills 11-19-2010 01:10 PM

I would go with a maroon border.

amma 11-19-2010 01:13 PM

It is beautiful! I like the idea of another border in red/maroon too :D:D:D

maureenann 11-19-2010 01:59 PM

I agree with the maroon border... your nephew will love it!

Sheila Elaine 11-19-2010 02:11 PM

Tabby, nice boyish colored fabrics & the blocks are so nice. He's gonna love it.

Pam S 11-19-2010 02:13 PM

Lucky boy. It's a great quilt just the way it is but when it comes to growing boys, bigger wouldn't hurt. I vote for the maroon border.

Donna Mare 11-19-2010 02:14 PM

I would match up a bit with the red or maroon that is in the quilt squares...pull it together and also a bit bigger,, he is a growing boy.. Really like your quilt too..very nice choices!

Annaquilts 11-19-2010 02:14 PM

It looks great as it is but I agree bigge ris better. Some of my children are so long they love their old twin quilts but complain the quilt is too short. They like to lift it and put it under their feet and still pull it up till around their ears.

ann clare 11-19-2010 02:39 PM

Beautiful. I would add a border

maryb119 11-19-2010 03:23 PM

What about a medium bown border? The burgandy may give it a Christmas look. You have med browns in the blocks. Just a suggestion.

kajaza 11-19-2010 03:37 PM

I like it the way it is but would also look great with another border!

ree-nee 11-20-2010 06:20 AM

OHHH! OH! OH! That is so lovely!

tabsmonsters 11-20-2010 06:27 AM

Thanks everyone! I will look at burgundy and brown fabrics. Great suggestion on the brown!

lindagor 11-20-2010 06:29 AM

Maroon border would be great.

lindagor 11-20-2010 06:30 AM

Maroon border would be great.

maryv 11-20-2010 06:54 AM

Really nice, lucky boy! Be sure to post the finished quilt.

nanabirdmo 11-20-2010 07:11 AM

Either with or without an additional border will be perfect. If the size is good as is I would tend to leave it at that, but that is just me.

Annz 11-21-2010 08:26 AM

Yea another border would be nice but I feel that if you chose a burgandy or maroon it will look too holidayish. I would go for a brown/beige that is in the quilt.
