This quilt was time consuming, and I was stuck when it came to borders. So it sat on the design wall. I think next time I will buy extra background and not add borders. Now I need to select the backing. The fact that it fits the bed perfectly is a happy coincidence! I have no idea how to quilt it because I have a domestic Bernina and straight lines are all I have mastered. I really like using my old cross stitch patterns for quilt patterns! 2 more quilts to finish, then I can start my sea glass quilt. I hope to have the process finalized by then.

That is really net, aashley333. I like the addition of the inner and outer borders because they frame the shell and also the way they fit on the top of the bed. Great idea to use cross-stitch patterns in your quiltmaking.

That you can take a cross stitch pattern and convert it to a quilt pattern is amazing to me! I love this as I am an avid shell hunter on the Gulf coast of FL.

Thanks for sharing!

You have a LOT of patience aashley333. I was going to try this once with a photo of our dogs and bought a cross stitch CD that converted pictures to designs, but when I told our son who is a software engineer, he said there is a simple program you can use to convert several colored pixels together to form blocks of color for appliques. I don't know what it is since I never did make it, but maybe someone on the board who is tech savvy can tell you if you are interested. Your method is great however, so proceed as is if that is your choice, as your results are lovely.

Thanks to SuzSLO for suggesting some quilting lines. Here's the finished quilt and a close-up of quilting lines. My pics sure don't show bright details. Not sure why. I used a bright floral sateen wide backing. I ordered a beautiful greenish backing piece, but won't arrive until April. Didn't want to wait.

Nicely done! Such a huge pixilated quilt! I know that took a lot of time. I suspect if you wanted to try some freeform quilting with the Bermina, you would be a natural!
