Tote bag our guild makes for a women's shelter

Our guild makes tote bags for a local shelter. I put a link to a post I made that shows photos of the simple assembly we use to make these totes.
We received a request from the shelter to make the tote bags larger. The larger tote shown in my picture is cut from 18" x 36" rectangles vs the 15 x 30 we use to make. The flap was eliminated for the Larger totes in order to be able to fill them up with more items. The finished size was 14" h x 17"w x 6" deep (boxing corners 3")

What terrific totes and what a wonderful guild project for a good cause. Thank you for sharing the measurements and instructions. I will definitely have to make one…

Is there a reason to not use rectangles that are cut width of fabric instead of the 30"? It would make the bag even bigger without leaving the scrap. piece. This is a great project!

Lovely tote! For smaller totes, I was able to use the La-Z-boy upholstery swatches (the big ones14x22?) that I got free as they were discontinued. I made a ton of them that we stuffed with supplies to go to missions. Might be an idea if you can get a furniture store in your area to donate.

Thank you for your input on cutting the rectangle the width of fabric to make the bags even bigger. We were given the 18" x 36 " size rectangle as a guide. The left over fabric would be for the bag bottom or pockets.

Thank you for your idea! A guild member is going to donate upholstery fabric.
