My dgs's teacher likes roosters. We found this piece of pre-quilted fabric and daughter thought I should make a tote. It has been a real challenge to say the least. It doesn't look centered I know (it's not) The way it was printed the sunflowers would have been the center and that's not what I wanted. Truthfully I didn't realize until I had cut it out twice (expensive mistake) that it was that far off. Oh well, done now and my daughter loves it and feels the teacher will too. Had fun making little extra things. I may still make some other things. I made a mug rug that will go in there too.

What is the name of that fabric? I have a friend that loves roosters. I would love to make something for her using that fabric.

I bought it at JoAnns. It is prequilted. It is called Chickens and Sunflowers by Patty Reed Designs. Made by Fabric Traditions.

I'm a teacher, too, and I completely agree with pab58! Your daughter's teacher is going to absolutely love this gift! BTW: Your daughter sounds like a sweet, loving and generous girl and I'm glad you were able to help bring her idea to life!

That is one lovely and very thoughtful gift. I am presently making a tote bag for the new teacher in my family and you have given me the idea to put in the little extras. I guess the other teachers in the family will then want one. Thanks for that.

"Thanks for that" sounds a bit rude. I meant thanks for the idea.

Wow!! You are bringing teacher gifts to a whole new level :)
I loooove roosters and chickens so of course I would think it is great but aside from that ....... anyone would love to receive that as a gift. You are a sweetie for helping your daughter make this happen for her teacher!

bjnicholson 11-10-2010 06:42 PM

Off center? But, with the other white chicken peeking around the right, it looks like you planned it that way  I like it!

This grandson and his older sister go to a very small private Christian school. He is in 5th grade. At this level he mainly has one teacher and they do tend to give them a nice gift. I kept making the extra things because I had fabric left over and they were things I had wanted to try. The sister is in 8th grade and has many teachers so we are making something a bit smaller for those them. I took a tutorial for fabric boxes and resized them to fit the small kleenex boxes. When I make a "good" one I will post for all to see. The sample is sort of scrappy and not so neat.
