Just a hint that has helped me tremendously...posted this in the March issue of TQPM...press down firmly while moving your quilt sandwich to gain best control of movement. It really helps a lot! Practicing speed of movement is also helpful. Here is a photo of some of the FMQ done on a floral log cabin I recently finished and sent to one of my sisters. I used chalk to mark each motif before quilting and didn't actually sew on the lines at all times, which looked fine once the chalk was washed out. I will say it took 3 washings...no drying between...to get all the chalk out, using spray and wash, but it did come out.

Thanks for the hints/tips and the picture. Need all the help I can get. Still need lots of practice but getting there. Your quilting looks great. I think I will stay without stencils for the time being - have trouble with stitching in the ditch so don't imagine I can follow a stencil line any better. LOL

Thanks everyone for your comments.

You did a great job of FMQ, mine is so horrible I would not dare send a picture. But this is the year I start learning how to do it. Maybe next year I will post my picture !

Anyone that attempts to FMQ is courageous. I am a professional at peicing any quilt top , but affraid to quilt any of them.
I think that your attempts look wonderful, keep up the practicing.. All the comments on this board are always very reassuring and very helpful. The best comment I've ever read is the one from Petthefabric, thanks.

You are doing well. Keep going. And yes practice, practice, practice. When I learned to do feathers, I felt I was finally a quilter. When I am being tacky, I say "after the first 1000, they are easy."
