That's going to be one awesome quilt! Great colors.

What do you mean quilt as you go? Is that part quilted already? Cool!

Elizabeth A. 08-02-2008 03:01 PM

I really like how your flowers look so pretty in the middles!

What form of quilt as you are you using? Everytime I've seen a quilt as you go it you work with a square of batting and a square of backing as you sew on your block. How does your way work? Perhaps it involves less hand sewing? :D

Very pretty! Great fabric choice. I'm also curious as to what quilt as you go means.

Marcia 08-02-2008 03:36 PM

Wow-and super king size too? What a great quilt that will be. Keep us updated with pics as you go.

jbsstrawberry 08-02-2008 03:55 PM

Ohhh how beautiful is that!!! I absolutely LOVE your fabrics!! You're doing a fantastic job and now I can't wait to see it completed!!

pocoellie 08-02-2008 03:59 PM

No, the squares aren't quilted yet. I'm chicken, I am starting to do the basting though. The instructions say make your sandwich, baste, quilt your design, leaving 1/2"-1" around the border, then when all your blocks are done, sew them together, then quilt whatever is left.

Celeste 08-02-2008 04:07 PM

Beautiful!

DA Mayer 08-02-2008 05:02 PM

Wow that is so pretty, good luck with the quilting, sounds interesting.

azdesertrat 08-02-2008 05:22 PM

where did you get the pattern?

gcathie 08-02-2008 06:45 PM

pocoellie...you can do it...just bite the bullet and waalaa it will be done...sounds awesome to do....can't wait to see the work ....keep us posted...

pocoellie 08-02-2008 07:21 PM

azdesertrat-I think I got the pattern from quilter's cache.

huggyface 08-02-2008 07:55 PM

the quilt as you go is very easy, my friend and I just finished one ( quilt ) and donated it toProject Keeping Cadance and now are making one for childrens' miracle network. I like to leave a little more than a 1/2 inch around block that way if your blocks vary a little it won't matter. it really is easy, if you can't afford to send out your quilt to be quilted this is the way to go and it is fast. try it you'll like it good luck

tlrnhi 08-02-2008 08:07 PM

WOW! I love the colors! Can't wait to see it done!
I have some blocks that are sandwiched so I can do the quilt as you go, but haven't gotten to them as of yet

pocoellie 08-02-2008 08:52 PM

Thank you huggyface for your help. I tried the process last year, but left 2" around and ripped it all out, ended up tying it, but my friend loved it anyway.

Barb M 08-02-2008 09:42 PM

Oooh wow, it looks really gorgeous! And love the floral fabric you chose, really beautiful! :)

Carol W 08-03-2008 03:29 AM

Will you have to put sashing around the blocks to sew them together after you sandwich and quilt the block?

It's a beautiful block!!!

Chele 08-03-2008 04:32 AM

Wow! Can't wait to see it finished! I'm so intrigued with the "quilt-as-you-go" technique.

Bevanger 08-03-2008 04:34 AM

Wow! That's gonna be gorgeous when you finish it

pocoellie 08-03-2008 04:34 AM

Carol W-You can either sash it or not, slightly different directions if you sash, but these won't have sashing.

Carol W 08-03-2008 05:10 AM

How will you sew it together?

Will you sew each block to the back and batting?

Thanks!! :D

Carol

pocoellie 08-03-2008 05:25 AM

After all blocks are done you sew the rows/columns together, get your batting to line up. On your backing, one side you lay down, the other you fold under 1/2" and blind stitch it down, then when you're done with the whole thing, you do your quilting on the little sections. Piece of cake. I think. Make sure you don't leave more than an inch all around the block, like the first QAYG I tried. Doesn't work.

pocoellie 08-03-2008 05:26 AM

Carol-sorry-you make your sandwich for each block and do your quilting, leaving 1/2"-1" around each block.

ddrobins1956 08-03-2008 08:13 AM

Love IT!

azdesertrat 08-03-2008 03:22 PM

thanks for the place to get the pattern it is beautiful by the way

treasurelady 08-03-2008 05:20 PM

My sister and I have taken a class using this method for a queen size sampler quilt. It's a great way to have a completely hand quilted quilt without uising a hoop or frame. You do have to get all the blocks to one size, but that's not a problem either. It turns out great!

ScubaK 08-03-2008 05:48 PM

That is going to be gorgeous!

Oh so glad someone asked how to sew the blocks together i was starting to think the back was a rag quilt. ANyhow that is going to be gourgous.

Carol W 08-04-2008 06:14 AM

Thank you for the directions!!!

I have a few blocks the have the batting and backing. I am anxious to try this method.
