Trying new techniques

1 Attachment(s)
I've been going through my books to cull out those I don't want anymore. Sometimes I make a little sample quilt to try out the technique before I decide to give away the book.

Here's a sample from Bargellos With a Twist, by Maggie Ball.
This top is made with only sixteen 7" blocks, so not a big investment of time or fabric.

Hmm.... I need to find that pattern.

Quilter 65 05-18-2017 03:03 PM

That is a very pretty top.

KLO 05-18-2017 04:08 PM

And the blocks are all the same, is that correct? If so, what a neat quilt to make and yours turn out great.

DebraK 05-18-2017 04:39 PM

KLO, yes, all the same block.

Jingle 05-18-2017 06:31 PM

Very pretty.

That is a great idea.

What a wonderful idea. So often I'll purchase a book because I like one pattern in it. Once it's made, I never look at the book again. Your idea would make me relook at the other patterns. I like it, thanks for sharing.

Interesting quilt. So did you decide to keeep the book? I think I would....

Judith1005 05-19-2017 03:29 AM

Your quilt is very pretty. It is very bold and makes a statement. That is a great idea on your books.

I have passed on about 30 quilting books so far. I enjoyed them all at the time I bought them. But, now, I hope someone else will find them and snap them up and enjoy them as much as I did. (I usually just donate mine to the local library.) Or, there's this great little thrift store in my area that I just love to stop into. I donate a lot there too.

Looks great!

DebraK 05-19-2017 04:18 AM

Yes, I kept the book. I learned a lot about color placement.
I think I would like to try another quilt, only larger, with mixed blocks, set on point.

Jordan 05-19-2017 07:37 AM

I like it. Very colorful and what a great idea to try out blocks to see if you need the book anymore.
