Trying new things
2 Attachment(s)
Made these twin quilts for two little girls. Learning how to use my mid arm that I bought from a sweet lady in New Mexico. Tried a new way of sewing the binding on with the sewing machine. Saw Pat Sloan the guild meeting and she said she sews her binding on the back of the quilt then lays the binding edge on the sewed line on the front and blanket stitches it. Still room for improvement for me, but I really liked doing it this way.

Good work. Those should be cuddly.
Nice quilts. That is how I do mine too and it works great.
lucky girls and great job on completely the quilts.
Your quilts look great. I too do my binding that way. It has never made sense to me to handstitch a binding on a quilt that has been completely stitched in all other areas on the machine. The quilts that I make get a lot of hard use and many washings and machine stitched bindings stand up better. I use all sorts of decorative stitches on them and sometimes even a straight stitch! They all work out just fine and as these quilts are not going into a competition of any kind, no one else even knows.

it looks great! unless it's a show quilt, i sew the bindings on the back and turn to the front, too.
wow, very pretty colors! I am going to make a quilt for my GD in similar colors.
Two wonderful quilts!
I had to laugh at myself this morning. I was doing opposite and messing it up. Just couldn't get it right. I was sewing the binding on the front then trying to "match it up" by sewing straight line on the back. LOL not the way to go.
Nice quilts! I do my bindings by machine too. Keep up the great work. :)
Two very pretty quilts! The girls will love them!
Must give that binding method a try. Thanks for sharing.
Love them.. Great colors
Such bright colors brings this quilt to life! Great job!

Your quilts are darling. Very girly! I'm glad you posted about your binding. It has always made sense to me to sew onto the back and turn to the front. I can make the front look nice and not worry so much if I wiggle off the line in places. Sometimes I've sewn onto the front and turned to the back because the little quilt angel on my shoulder reminds me that's what a seasoned quilter would tell me to do. I usually always wish I'd done it the way I like, back to front.

Beautiful quilts!
I just switched from hand sewing the binding down on the back to sewing the binding all by machine. It's totally fine for the quilts that I make. Attach it to the back, flip it around to the front, then sew it down. HATED hand sewing the binding down on the back. I don't why I didn't switch sooner... |
I would be afraid the blanket stitch would be a " toe catcher".....
Im so glad to see others sew on the back and turn to the front. I thought you had to sew on the front. My back always looks better than the front on the corners. I'm sewing on the back from now on. Geri I took out about one inch when I first started and thought I would never get it out. Surprisingly it is really sewed together good. I also forgot to say that I did all of the piecing on my serger. With this Missouri Star pattern it was fine and it was really fast.
very nice quilts i sew mine on that way too!!!
Love your quilts. One quilter said I was putting the binding on backwards (like you). Told her it was how I did it. I also start at the lower left or right of the quilt.
Very pretty !
Nice! Pretty quilts. Your sweeties will love them.
I do binding the same way, with a blanket-y type stitch. I rarely hand-sew it on anymore. Your quilts are nice! They'll love them.
Thanks for the binding tip.
These are two great looking quilts! I do my binding this way also (sew on back, bring to front then machine stitch). Easier with my arthritis.
Great job, and thanks for the tip for the binding. I,m going to try this next time.
Oh, these are so pretty. I don't see any reason not to do the binding this way. I may try it. Thanks.
