I just finished quilting this for one of my customers. I should have taken a bigger picture of the tie dyed back, because it is so cool!

I rarely do anything but pantographs for customers, but this quilt was not interfaced, leaving the shirts extremely stretchy and it was very difficult to quilt. I ended up doing the big loops spirals one handed, so I could hold the fabric down with the other hand. There was no way to work from the back of the longarm on this one!

I love the hodge podge look of this quilt. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how you pieced all the blocks together. Are there a lot of set in seams?

Sorry..I just read that you didn't piece the top, a customer did.

But, if anyone can figure it out, let me know! lol

Pretty t shirt quilt.

I love it. Gives me good ideas. . I've saved some unique and memory t-shirts from my daughter, and need to use them like this

I can't believe they pieced it together without interfacing! That would have been a nightmare to piece and possibly to quilt? Wow!

You did a great job. It is difficult to quilt one handed and you did well

hperttula123 06-29-2011 07:14 PM

That is great! I think you did a wonderful job at quilting it. :) The back is awesome!!!

Thanks ladies! The method for this one can be found here:

There is a book and templates available on how to create this type of tshirt quilt.

Let me just say this... I won't ever quilt another done without interfacing. LOL

Don't be such a chicken You did a beautiful job on it. I have teenagers here quilting these quilts all day long. They aren't that hard. You just have to work from the front and work a block at a time. No, you can't just turn on the computer and walk away.

You did a marvelous job considering there was no interfacing. I have been to the too cool site and I have to disagree about the interfacing making the quilt stiff. I have made numerous T-shirt quilts and I ALWAYS do lightweight fusible interfacing and my T-Shirt quilts are NEVER stiff. They are soft and cuddly and MUCH less prone to stetching out of shape, puckering or pleating in the quilting process and I suspect they will hold up better over the long haul. My oldest one is over 10years old and haven't had any problems with it. The stiffness factor is entirely dependent on the interface. If you use a stiff heavy interfacing you will get a stiff heavy quilt. Use a lightweight one made especially for knits and all it does is keep the blocks from stretching out of shape and adds no stiffness. I am with you, I will not quilt a T-shirt quilt if interfacing wasn't used.

Andrea, I love your style of tshirt quilts and will definitely make them, but I will be interfacing them. It was the seams that gave me so much grief, they want to stretch forever when the hopping foot goes over them. Obviously I oculd have raised my hopping foot enough to clear the seams, but I didn't! LOL

Nice quilt and I love that back! I agree they need the interfacing though. I like quilts to be warm, but then we live in the northwest so need that!

SaraSewing 07-20-2011 12:15 PM

How did you keep the knits from stretching when you were piecing it?

cjtinkle 07-20-2011 12:20 PM

I didn't piece it, I only quilted it.
