Thanks, burnsk, for asking about the tube tutorial. I tried it out today, and I love it!!! Even my hubby was amazed at how fast it is. I put these two together, and have enough tubes stitches to make enough blocks for 3 table runners. (C'mas is getting close. ;) )

Patti

first two blocks made from tubes...took me about 1/2 hour..and that included ironing the fabric first!!!

This looks great! :-)
Where's the tube tutorial??

Tippy 11-08-2009 08:19 PM

I tried it today also.. but I made mine a little smaller (1/2) than the tutorial directed.. great size for coasters...
The tutorial I saw was on the Missouri Star Quilt Company site.. it's awesome.. but it is good to have the right sized ruler.

MollieSue 11-08-2009 08:22 PM

Love your squares.
Cant wait to try it.

sewnsewer2 11-09-2009 01:04 PM

Cool, looks like you can do alot with that!

Pzazz 11-09-2009 03:59 PM

I am in awe of how fast this technique is. I spent the day in a hospital waiting room all day while hubby had a minor procedure done, (he is doing great), so only had about 1/2 hour in the sewing room when we got home before my hips gave out. (Love my heating pad!!!!) I have blocks done for 3 runners!! I have Wednesday off work, so I should be able to get them finished then.

If you have tried this yet, you are going to love it when you do!!!

Ragann63 11-09-2009 08:36 PM

I just learned this technique at the Shawnee State Park Retreat in Ohio! We cut five 1 3/4" strips of dark to light and attached them to a dark (instructor used black making an Amish block.) After cutting the 45 degree angles, we ended up with 9" Roman stripe blocks for our quilt. The opposing color blocks (which were not used in the quilt) could be used for a wall hanging, table runner or lap quilt. Great technique!

k3n 11-09-2009 11:42 PM

Ragann I like the sound of that! Oh, now I have to try that too!

Pats8e8 11-09-2009 11:54 PM

You guys are bad. Now instead of doing my 4 remaining exchange blocks this afternoon, I cut out strips and made up tube blocks! They are so fun! I tried to take pictures but it was too dark, and when I tried with the flash, it washed them out. So I will try in the daytime tomorrow. Mine are red, blue and the light part is a white with patriotic Santa's on it. I have had that fabric for a long time and not known what to do with it. It is perfect for this! I got 10 small blocks out of each strip, or 2 1/2 big blocks. I am taking them to class tomorrow to show them how it's done. I'm sure several will like them for fast Christmas gifts. Thanks again for showing us this tutorial!

Okay, took some more pics in the daylight, see if you can tell the colors, red and blue, and Santa.

One of the small blocks.

Pats8e8 11-10-2009 02:02 PM

No, that is 4 blocks put together. This sure is fun, going to take the rest of the sets to class and show them how it is done.

rismstress 11-10-2009 03:10 PM

thanks for the tutorial link. I watched it and am going to do it. It's so simple. Why didn't I think of this? And I have this ruler already.

auntiehenno 11-10-2009 09:08 PM

What a terific tutorial, was on there for over an hour and still want to go back. Thaks for sharing it with us!!!

omak 11-10-2009 09:30 PM

Before one runs out to buy a "special" ruler ... check out the rulers you have.
If there is one with a 45 degree angle on it, these blocks can be handily accomplished.

wvdek 11-10-2009 09:57 PM

Great blocks.
