Mamagus 11-20-2009 05:47 PM

Pretty! The tube method is certainly a hit on the board. Everyone will have one for Christmas!

Ms Grace 11-20-2009 07:15 PM

Just beautiful! :-) What is the runner measurements?
Can you tell me how many strip sets the table runners take?
How long were your strips?
Thanks so much, I need a few more Xmas presents and this would be perfect. :D I need some quick projects.

bopeep 11-20-2009 07:17 PM

That is beautiful....I LOVE IT..

Question.. Does anyone know how wide you can make the Strips ? I would like to try and make bigger for a quilt .

amma 11-20-2009 07:36 PM

You can take a square piece of paper and cut it in half diagonally for any sized template, if you do not have a square ruler that is the right size

Riversong,

Isn't tubing fun and easy? Even I got most of the points right on. Your runner is lovely and festive. Great job.

Riversong 11-20-2009 09:04 PM

I dont remember how many i cut. Check the tute, she tells how many you can get from a set.

omak 11-20-2009 10:47 PM

You can make the strips any size.
The square will grow, depending on the size of the original two strips.
2.5" strips will probably produce a square that would measure 4 and 5/8ths inch.
If you want to make a bigger block, then try cutting beginning four inch strips ... the resulting 2-strip piece would measure 7.5" ... finished size of the square would be 6.75" give or take an eighth of an inch ...
The table topper is terrific, too!
Good show! <wave>

Truly beautiful but I am totally in the dark about tube quilting. What is it and how do you do it? Is there a tutorial?

Thank you Omak, I found the thread for tube method,it is the same as the one I used for quick and easy Roman stripe blocks, you just have more strips. Love from the U.K.Letty

Here's yet another table runner using the tube method. I love seeing all the different possibilites with this easy block. Thanks to whoever started us on the Missouri Quilt Co. website. I plan to use this pattern a lot in 2010!

Love it!!

borntoquilt 12-10-2009 04:00 PM

This is fast as fast can be BUT did anybody else have trouble with all those bis edges stretching????? I think i would rather do HST's... GREAT method tho' ....

borntoquilt 12-10-2009 04:01 PM

I meant BIAS edges.... (I just invented a new quilting term lol!)

The quilt in your avatar has at least that many bis/bias edges <g> and it looks like you did fine with it.
Sewing bias edges is a good time to learn to let go of control issues. It is one of those times when you GUIDE the fabric rather than WRESTLING it to keep it in line ... a light hand, and you will have not problems with either type of edge. <wave>
cute, though ... I didn't catch it until you pointed it out. LOL

Plus I would starch the living daylights out of it first before cutting! From doing OBWs I've learned that bias is my FRIEND - sometimes the little bit of streeeetchhhhh is what I need to make everything maaaaatchhhh!

I love your version of the runner with the sashing! Have to try that! :-D

borntoquilt 12-11-2009 08:26 AM

the quilt in my avatar is "Strip Twist" mentioned here awhile back.(check the SEARCH) It is all done in strips. I sew-d, THEN cut. Very easy, VERY effective with lots of colors and NO BIAS. I'll try to stop wrestling my bias strips. Some of my squares weren't the same size (how did THAT happen??) so I was REALLY thankful for some of that streeeeeetch.....

Bevanger 12-11-2009 08:46 AM

i love it!

Gotchya! Sort of like Bonnie Hunter's Weed Wacker ... It is a lovely quilt, by the way, if I didn't already say it.
You are correct ... stretch can be our friend <g> ...
sometimes, I am just underwhelmed with how inaccurate my best rotary cutting turns out :?
On the other hand, since not being perfect means I get to practice my art more, it can't all be a bad thing, eh? 8-)

pennyswings 12-11-2009 03:53 PM

Wow this is so pretty. Love it!!

n2scraplvr 12-11-2009 04:50 PM

Really LOVE this runner! Will have to try the tube quilting some time. Yours is the prettiest I've seen yet!
