There is a pattern for strip piecing the Tumbling Blocks, it is "Not Your Grandmother's Tumbling Blocks." Not a book to buy for one pattern like some are.

Great color placement on the first one. Are you kidding?? This makes your eyes move from place to place. Far more interesting than the predictable placement. I say Hurray!

I like the first one, different, that is what quilting is all about, being different, I do it on purpose...

There is also a "Not your Grandmother's tumbling blocks (and Flower Garden)." Done by strip piecing and cutting into triangles that make diamonds.

don't give up, look for an easier way. I wanted to make a tumbling blocks quilt but didn't want to deal with all of those points... I had head that Kaye Wood has a pointless thing she does so I went to her site and found the Stacking My Blocks pattern there. It's so easy. I think she has a YouTube video on this technique too.
