Turning 4am mornings into a quilted basket

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a tote pattern called Freeport Gatherer. Reminded me of my old New England home. Each morning at 4am before getting ready for work, i worked on it...today, it was time to make the tote....wow, for the most part I ended up wearing it as I had not realized how huge it was turning out. now I have changed my mind and instead of a tote it will be a stair basket to bring things upstairs. Lol

I can't see any zig zag machine stitching to hold the cording together. Do you sew this by hand?

I love the art object you turned it into for such a functional basket. Great planning.

What a beautiful basket .... Interested to hear your response to RedGarnet222.

Thank-you, yes it was put together with zig zag stitching. The pattern called for 40 jelly roll strips lined with duo fuse and folded several times. No cording used. Never tried that..maybe next time when I make a smaller one.

Love the colors! My grandmother and aunt had a stair basket.

Very pretty basket. I have no stairs, all one level.

I love your Colorful basket. My friend gifted me a small basket in blue and white fabrics and is supposed to show me how easy they are to make...but I haven't had my tutorial yet.

Thank- you for your comments. It was relatively easy to make however, it is very time consuming with the strip preparation. This monstrosity took 40 jelly roll strips. Would I do one again? Yes, but a smaller version with half as many strips.

I really like that. I have been thinking about making one for quilt some time. I would be interested to know how to do it without the cording.

I've never heard of doing that kind of basket without using cording.....what is DuoFuse? Where did you get it?

annette1952 06-26-2016 12:40 PM

MargeD 06-27-2016 02:04 PM

Beautiful and a great basket as well.

pineneedles4 06-28-2016 04:04 AM

Beautiful! Now I'm fascinated by this method. I've always used the clothesline rope and wrapped the rope but I hate the raw edges showing and this method is so neat and I'll bet faster than wrapping yards and yards of rope! Thank you for sharing.

joyce888 06-29-2016 06:15 PM

Great job! Adds a nice pop of color on the stairs.

mamajack3 06-29-2016 08:09 PM

I love it! The colors are gorgeous.
