This took me 2 years to finish I am embarassed to say. I don't really know why ~ it just did. If you notice the top right of the picture...look at how I lost the block. The ONLY thing I could figure out is that my 1/4" seam was off. If you think it doesn't make a difference...think again! This was for my daughter Emily and if it wasn't for the fact that she loved it so much and wanted it no matter what ~ I think I would have chucked it in the bin.

amma 10-11-2010 09:51 AM

Glad you didn't give up! I bet Emily is loving it now :D:D:D

poultney 10-11-2010 09:58 AM

Great job! I love the colors. Didn't notice the short blocks on right until I reread to see what you said again about the short blocks.

wolfkitty 10-11-2010 10:01 AM

It is beautiful despite the short blocks! I'm glad you saved it, too.

Qbee 10-11-2010 10:01 AM

Isn't it funny how the maker of these beautiful quilts notices things that no one else does...LOL ;) I would have NEVER noticed that block. Great job!!

quiltinggirl 10-11-2010 10:22 AM

I really like it this way. Nice job! :)

KathyAire 10-11-2010 10:40 AM

I like it. You did a good job.

I'm sorry it took so long to complete. I have that pattern and ruler/template. I thought it went together rather fast.

Glad that Emily likes it.

lovequilts 10-11-2010 11:30 AM

I like it. With all the "modern" quilts out there now this fits right in. Emily will love it.

Thanks for sharing this. Many of us would probably be too shy to share, what with all the perfect examples that get posted here on the board. But mistakes are by far the best way to learn. My goal is to make a new and different mistake next time, but sometimes it doesn't go that way.

And your quilt is quite charming, I think.

iluvquilts 10-11-2010 12:16 PM

Looks great to me! Actually, it looks like the right side is "twisting" off the quilt - like it was meant to be! Wasn't that what you had planned all along???

Of course! Who was it that said we are our own worst critics?? I can pick out my mistakes in a flash..but never anyone elses. My goal is to have my quilts loved and adored ~ never perfect. I tried it that way...I never got any finished. This was just SOO obvious that I wasn't sure what to do. All I had to do was look at Emily's face when i said I didn't think I would finish it....I'm so glad I did... :D

Someone who really wants a quilt isn't just looking at all the details. They want it simply because you made it; it's a part of you and came from your heart. She will love and cherish this quilt even with the "lost" block because you gave it to her.

CarrieAnne 10-11-2010 02:32 PM

Its really nice!

Ditter43 10-11-2010 02:44 PM

If I waited to do a perfect quilt, I would have thrown all mine away so far! It is a beautiful quilt just like it is! :D

tinkerfeet 10-11-2010 02:45 PM

Well I really like it  Its different and that is what I like. You did a great job. Be proud of everything you do.

charismah 10-11-2010 03:31 PM

I gave up on perfection a loooooong time ago! Yor quilt is great! It will be loved and that is all that matters!

Mariposa 10-11-2010 03:34 PM

Great creative license on the quilt! :)

bjnicholson 10-11-2010 03:36 PM

Oh, you mean you didn't PLAN it that way????

sherriequilts 10-11-2010 03:38 PM

I think it gives a special flavor to the quilt, like folk art! I like it a lot. Glad you finished it.

dkabasketlady 10-11-2010 03:51 PM

I can see why Emily loves it so!! It's an awesome quilt and really does look like it was planned to be that way from the start. Great job on finishing it in two yrs. I'm working on one that's going on four yrs. and the pattern isn't that hard. Just not in the mood to get it finished.

cathyvv 10-11-2010 04:44 PM

The only critic who counts is your daughter, and she loves it! Have made similar mistakes and probably will again. Keeps me humble... :)

quiltluvr 10-11-2010 04:47 PM

For what it's worth, I think that was the exact way it should have been made. Character and charm don't begin to describe the love you sewed.

RkayD 10-11-2010 05:07 PM

You guys are all awesome! thank you!

Jingle 10-11-2010 05:21 PM

I try with every quilt I make for perfection, Oldest DD tells me there is no such thing. Figure if I keep trying I will at least get closer.
I'm for sure my worst critic.
If your DD loves it, then its okay.

sandpat 10-11-2010 05:29 PM

Aww....I think it kinda adds to the look of the quilt. You did learn and it didn't do any harm to this quilt.

sylviak 10-11-2010 05:40 PM

Don't know how old your daughter is, but if she is very young, you can make up a story to go with the quilt that includes a couple of "runaway blocks" that were caught just in time to be part of her quilt! (Or something similar....she'll want you to tell her the story every night!)

sewgull 10-11-2010 05:52 PM

Cute quilt. I think your error added a cute Twist to the pattern.
I made Twisted Sister quilt using 3 different shamrock fabrics. It turned out good.

Gramof6 10-11-2010 07:54 PM

Ronna I love this quilt! I really do. I think the right hand corner looks planned & would not tell anyone any different. I actually had to go back and read your post to find out what you were talking about. And I do not blame Emily for wanting it finished so I could enjoy the quilt! It is great and yes we are our own worst critics. Perfection is sooo over rated. Completed is much better! Great job and keep up the nice work!

I'm with Ditter!!! Until you told us, I just thought those blocks were part of the character of the quilt.

Pickles 10-11-2010 08:09 PM

Your quilt is so beautiful and I didn't notice it either until I reread what you said , I agree with everyone it looks as if it was meant to be that away, Pat yourself on the back hon, for you did a great quilt!!!
:D :D

champagnebubbles 10-11-2010 08:16 PM

I like it soooo much
