Twister baby quilt: teal, purple & brown - modified trip around the world

Here is a twister baby quilt I made for a family member. They requested these colors for their baby girl. It doesn't look like a baby quilt to me, but it is the colors they requested. I used purple minky on the back to make it nice and soft. It is a little large for a baby quilt - I thought it might be used more when she is a toddler since it really doesn't look babyish to me.

Great job on a terrific baby quilt! Love the teal and purple too! :)

I designed it myself, but it is very similar to "Trip Around the World". It is a "Twister" quilt which requires using the twister tool/ruler.

Have you seen some of the clothes they're putting on these babies? Your quilt looks fine and very pretty. I've seen black and white in a baby room for a girl no pinks or anything girly. A friend of mine watched a Jenny Doan tutorial about making a receiving blanket, She did it in browns and very few light shades. That's what the parents wanted.

Which size ruler did you use?

On this one I used the June Tailor twister ruler that has different sizes. I borrowed it from a friend and gave it back to her already. If my memory is correct I cut the squares 6" before cutting them down with the twister ruler. The quilt ended up being about 50+" square. That ruler was much, much easier to use than the original twister rulers. It has grooves in it where you cut, so you don't end up cutting too much. Here is a link on the ruler.

bigger is always better in a baby quilt (my opinion) most are almost to small. Great job. The colors look great. I'm sure they will treasure it always.

I think it is very pretty and the minkee would make it lovely to cuddle. I love your avatar!

Not what I would use for a baby either, but still very pretty. Great work!

I love everything about it - the colors, the size and the pattern is great! I always make baby quilts large so like you said they can use it when they are toddlers. Nice work!

I love those colors together. Very cute quilt!

cuppi duke 05-31-2013 05:51 AM

I think it's perfect. There don't seem to be correct colors for baby quilts anymore. They seem to make them brighter and more colorful. That baby qill love it forever.

NIICHMOM 05-31-2013 06:09 AM

All of the above. Thanks for sharing your quilt

Sarint 05-31-2013 06:13 AM

It looks fine to me. The baby won't care!

BeckySt 05-31-2013 06:28 AM

Love your layout for the quilt and the colors. I agree not traditonal baby colors but great colors and a great quilt to grow with. I have made all my twisters with the original rulers but purchasd the June Taylor ruler to get the different sizes just haven't had a chance to use it yet.

purplecat 05-31-2013 07:42 AM

Love those cololrs!

Podunk Princess 05-31-2013 08:03 AM

Beautiful baby quilt! I think purple is perfect for anything. Momma will love it.

dunster 05-31-2013 09:48 AM

That's a beautiful quilt. Pink for a girl, blue for a boy - gets dull after a while, doesn't it? This quilt has its own personality, and any child (and the mother) would love it.

Baloonatic 06-01-2013 04:39 AM

Beautiful quilt, and great colors!!

beateannkeith 06-01-2013 03:53 PM

LJDay 06-01-2013 07:19 PM

I agree with you. It definitely doesn't look like a baby quilt. That being said...it is absolutely gorgeous!! I love it. The colors, the pattern. Beautiful!!!! Great job!!!
