Twister: My first and possibly my last one

I gave it a try using the small Twister Template. It's a lot of work! I had some 6" squares and thought I would use those before I bought fabric to make one.

Nice job - it's bright and cheerful

Nice twister - love the brights!!

I didn't know twisters were that hard to do. I like your colors. Nice job. This is on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.

I like what you did. I just bought the small twister, but like you I thought it was a lot of work. I like the more simple patterns that looks complicated :)

Quiltngolfer 01-03-2012 07:38 AM

Yours is really cute. I almost bought the twister rulers last week. Is it really that hard?

Tartan 01-03-2012 07:44 AM

It's very pretty. Now that it's done and looks so neat, I bet you'll do another one.

Poakie 01-03-2012 07:49 AM

Really like that. Really colorful.

I think you're right. As I'm making the quilt.....sew the squares together, sew on the border, cut them apart, re-sew the squares together, re-border.....it is a lot of work, and it's true that what you end up with is a lot smaller than what you started out with...but when I see the end result, I can't help but see the possibility in another and another. I don't know, maybe I've gotten a bit lazy in what I expect from piecing a quilt....we all want that instant gratification with our quilting tools!! I do plan on making a bed sized quilt for my nephew.....and will be using the large size ruler for that. I can't imagine trying to keep all of those small sized piles of blocks straight.

I have all 3 sizes of the twister tool and have used each one, many times ! It's such fun to see each quilt come together. This Christmas I made twister wreaths, twister trees, twister heart and a tiny twister pillow and gave some as gifts, everyone loved them ! They may be a little more time consuming, but the end result is soooo worth it !
The teeny tiny wreath pillow was so darn cute, am going to make quilt a few more, and incorporate the design into table runners. I love these twister tools !

Love the colors, we need a little brightness in our lives now.

I love the bright colors of your twister. I am still on the fence, being scared to try it out, but I may just have to jump one of these days, and do it. Yours is really beautiful.

Nice and cheery.

I have made two twister quilts and I love it. They are fun and it's always exciting to see how they look after you sew the twisted blocks back together. I don't think it's any more work than make a quilt using blocks made up of multiple pieces. With the twister you're just sewing squares, how easy is that?

Babs194068 01-04-2012 04:24 AM

It's very pretty.

catladyquilts 01-04-2012 05:05 AM

it really turned out cute

Cuddly Quilter 01-04-2012 05:12 AM

Glad you are having fun. Lovely

Grammy Patti 01-05-2012 01:49 AM

Too hard for me. I have only made two simple Baby quilts. Not finished with binding. I like your efforts. Good work.

arbed31 01-06-2012 08:41 AM

Thanks everyone. I just hate bias edges and that's what you get when you cut the blocks out. I'll have to be very careful when I sew the border.

cjackaitlin 01-06-2012 09:55 AM

I just get the twister template. Please tell me it is easy. It didn't come with a design so I'm a little leary of trying it myself. Yours look great to me. Thanks for sharing.

Twisters are fun, I've made lots. I found it very helpful to have the soft gripper dots on each corner of my twist template.

Fabricnut 01-06-2012 03:16 PM

I made a tablerunner last winter using the Twister (large size). I found that you had to be really careful in cutting with the Twister. You can cut into the next block very easily. I had to use tiny strips of interfacing to hold the next piece together several times. But when I quilted it, it all held together just fine. Just quilt it closely especially where the blocks join.
