Two Commissioned T-shirt Quilts

2 Attachment(s)
Was asked by a friend to make t-shirt quilts for her two kids from their grandpa's t-shirts. Each took about a month although if I'd worked at them more consistently it would have been faster.
I find that the hardest thing about t-shirt quilts is arranging the shirts themselves. So I added the challenge of using the shirt backs as the backing for the quilt - will not do that again as it was very hard to keep from stretching even though I'd using interfacing there as well. Perhaps with a stiffer interfacing for the back..... It did feel like velvet....
Each one reflects the bond they had with their grandpa.

Amazing quilts!
You really get a sense of what kind of guy Grandpa was, and I’m sure snuggling in those quilts will be very comforting for those kids.
looks like my next major undertaking may be a T-shirt quilt, so I enjoyed the inspiration!

I have made several t-shirt quilts, and sometimes they aren't square at the corners, and I like how you put a triangle on some of the corners. That was a great idea. I will remember that if I ever have to make another one. Both look wonderful.

Grandpa must have been quite the character, judging by his shirts! Great quilts, both of them.

Great job! I admire anyone who makes tshirt quilts. I can't handle the stretch.

You did a fantastic job as always. I've done one large T-shirt quilt and the worst job was ironing the interfacing on each one and squaring them up. I had it quilted by a longarmer and asked for batting and Minkee. That quilt must weigh 50 lbs LOL
