Hi Everyone, I guess pretty much everyone knows I can't sew upstairs while babysitting my niece. So... I have been working on hand work when I can. I thought you girls might enjoy seeing what I have been making. Here is the set of hand embroidered redwork pillow cases. I have some wonderful handmade cutwork lace that I will edge it out with. The this will be a pillow when it is finished, a pattern by crabapple hill designs. |
Beautiful work! Looking forward to seeing your finished pillow cases!!
I love them. :-)
Thank you! The original redwork patterns are from Lace Tales. They have wonderful embroidery patterns there. I altered it somewhat while doing the redwork.
Aaahhh, what lovely ways to wake up and go to sleep.
Excellent work...good to see someone that enjoys hand sewing. I have never been one for hand sewing ...even to hemming. Very neat work someone is going to be happy to receive these.

They are all beautiful :D :D :D
LOL... OH NO .... These are mine. I like to keep my embroidered things I make.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I do love to sit and sew. So relaxing. You can't tell from the picture, but these cover the whole front of the pillowcase. I suppose that they should be shams, but I want to use that cutwork, so they are cases. |
Very nice!! I love handwork and yours is beautiful!
BEAUTIFUL!
its stunning - you're handwork is perfect!
I really wish the red thread didn't show though to the front so much. It is good quality muslin, I guess it is just so dark, it is just gonna do that.
Thank you so very much for looking at my projects I enjoy showing them off to you girls here. It is so wonderful to show someone who really knows what they are looking at. You ladies are all such artists in your own rights. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sweet comments. |
This brings back a lot of memories of making pillow cases from flour sacks. Even though the pillow cases had humble beginnings, they were decorated with embroidery work to make them more acceptable. These were the kind of things kids worked on in the summer when they had to come in out of the heat. Thanks for sharing.
I love redwork and yours are Beautiful! :D
Those are so cute. You do wonderful work.
Red, you do such a precise, beautiful job! I love the patterns you have. Were they iron on or preprinted? Just so pretty. I have a few blackwork books, and I had fully anticipated doing something with them until I rediscovered quilting. I just can't get as excited about hand stitching. I do have four Nora Corbett flower counted cross stitch fairies that I want to do when I'm "idle". Have you seen them? They are beautiful. I love seeing any embroidery, so thanks for sharing. Now we need to have a stitching party in your back yard with all your flowers. You know, Colorado "ain't" that far from Nevada.....
Thanks everyone you so sweet! i just love hearing your positive feedback.
Ducky ... I ironed on the good morning good night ones. But, the other one is hand traced on from the original paper. I haven't seen that designer. I will have to check out her work. Sounds beautiful. I used to do the counted cross stitch, but I don't anymore. I am so slow at it. I only have one that I might do, but it is highly unlikely that I will. You will have to show us how far you have gotten on it sometime. |
Those are FANTASTIC!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE embroidery...especially Red Work!!
Your embroidery work is wonderful!! :D
I just love all of it. I have a new pattern from Crab Apple Hill, for a quilt with some embroidered blocks & some print fabric blocks. Don't you just love their patterns? :D Sulabug, :D :D :D |
Beautiful! Sure to be treasured heirlooms!
Oh Thanks so much! I do love the hand work too. It is very relaxing. And redwork is my favorite.
The next one I am doing also has the mixed quilt squares and embroidery sudabug. It is supposed to be done in blackwork, but I am doing it as a redwork too. It is called, "Over The River", by crabapple hill. I am tracing it off today to the panels. :D |
Beautiful redwork. I'm just learning about it...is it similar to crossstich, or more like quilting without the sandwich?
oh my. what beautiful work. where oh where did you get those patterns? i'd love them myself
Hand embroidery is very easy stitches Esqmommy. It is mostly the stem stitch which makes up the lines and the little dots are a french knot. There are many stitches to hand embroidery that you can use. My sis goes to U Tube to learn new things. I bet they have a tutorial there for this too.
Hi Bev ...This is the site for the redwork iron ons ..... http://lacetales.com/ The basket came from www.crabapple hill.com I went there when crissie posted her snowman wall hanging and fell in love with it. p.s.) I found your booklet I am going to send you. I just need to find an envelope and get to the post office. I am thinking monday, I hope. |

Very nice.

Your pillowcases are just beautiful! I love redwork.
I really like the patriotic work too---what are you going to do with it? How long does it take you to make one of these pieces? I love to do embroidery but it takes me FOREVER to do it!! |
Hi girls ... Thanks so very much for your support, it is music to my ears.
Hey marcia! :-) The (crabapple hill) patriotic one is supposed to be made into a pillow according to the pattern. But, I have no idea what it will turm out to be .... giggle, giggle ... you know us girls and how we change things. I am not sure how long the hand embroidery takes, I pick them up for a while and then lay them down so much, it is hard to tell. It isn't something I would want to have to make in a hurry though. Know what I mean? I bought two more patterns from crabapple hill from e bay, yesterday. I was the only bidder, so it was at a great price because there was free shipping. It is a witch's Hat with embroidery all over it and a pumpkin pattern with crazy patches pieced and embroidery. I am looking forward to making them. They will be fun to display during the fall. |
Beautiful redwork. I got "stuck" at the Crabapple Hill Studio website. I haven't embroidered in years, but I'm thinking I just might have to order a project or two from there. Such nice patterns.
I know exactly what you mean .... LOL!
Very Nice.

I use two strands jerrie. It makes it more defined but you have to shorten up on the stitches to have a nice thick look to the lines. Hope this helps you some. Have a nice day, hon. and tc.
very nice hand work
