two finishes

Here are two scrappy quilts - a Hunters Star (fits a double bed) and "Arboretum," an improv throw.

It would be difficult to choose a favorite between these two quilts. My hubby and I own and operate Mellin Arboretum so the Arboretum quilt is at the top but I love, love, love the scrappy Hunters star too! Well done and lovely.

Two fabulous finishes, love them both!

So very often the "hunter's star" is done in just two colors but your multi-color example is beautiful. Congratulations on two finishes! Doesn't that feel good!

Beautiful and colorful! Could you share your strategy for the "Arboretum"?

EmiliasNana 06-22-2023 04:33 AM

Love both your colorful scrappy quilts, but would be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

Two lovely quilts! I love how you photographed them, too.

Is your Arboretum done in batiks? It looks like it in the phone. Very pretty. I love the randomness of it.

Very impressive quilts! Nice work!

Beautiful - so bright and colorful!!

The quilts are lovely. I love them both

Wonderful use of those pesky scraps! I love the arbor quilt

LAF2019 06-22-2023 04:37 PM

both are beautiful. I love the improv one!

TheMerkleFamily 06-22-2023 04:58 PM

Oh my these two are beautiful. You call these scrappy - I call it a fabulous collaboration of fabrics! Super job on both!

cashs_mom 06-22-2023 05:02 PM

I love both of them, but the hunter's star is amazing! I love how you combined your colors

Not sure what you mean by "strategy"? It was a free pattern found online, and a lot of fun to make as it was improvisational. Cut a rectangle, then cut in half lengthwise (for the main stem). Cut each half in a few places for the branches. Then inset a 1" piece of contrasting fabric. Voila! Just square up to a uniform size. I loved using batiks for the blocks.

Those are beautiful! Love that scrappy Hunter's Star. The Arboretum is so pretty. I saved that pattern awhile ago, it's definitely on my "someday" list!

Thanks for sharing.

Your quilts are both lovely. May have to try the Arboretum pattern when I finish my colorwash scrappy quilt.

Would you mind sharing which method you used for the hunter star quilt? Was it HST or something else?

Tartan 06-23-2023 07:13 PM

Lovely quilts!

I used an AccuQuilt die to cut my fabrics for the Hunter's Star quilt which made it much easier to put the various pieces together.

Love both of those quilts.

dunster 06-24-2023 10:52 AM

Both are beautiful, but the Hunter's Star is my favorite. I've always liked the design, but never made one because I thought I would get bored with just two colors. I never dreamed that a scrappy Hunter's Star could be so magnificent.

audsgirl 06-25-2023 07:18 PM

These are both gorgeous! You did a fantastic job. I like how you used the bright, colorful fabrics for the Hunter's Star. That gives the quilt a fresh, happy look. And the Arboretum one is so modern and soothing. I love them both.

These are both stunning quilts! You have a wonderful grasp on color and design.

Mkotch 06-27-2023 02:45 AM

Thank you all for your compliments! I find that arranging "rainbow" blocks to be really difficult. I have been doing the Rainbow Scrap Challege (superscrappy.blogspot.com) for a number of years and decided to stop this year. I have accumulated too many blocks that I just can't seem to fit together. Guess it's time to make an "orphan" quilt!

KimmerB 06-27-2023 04:37 AM

Beautiful! Noce work!
