Two Not So Identical Quilts for Identical Twins

7 Attachment(s)
My latest project has been making these two blankets for my new grand nieces. I used the same fabrics in both blankets, but very different patterns so there will be no confusion as to who has whose blanket down the road. I also backed them with minky...one smooth and the other bumpy. These were fun to make. It's been awhile since I've made a small faster project like this and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great idea to use two different designs for the same fabric. Those will be well loved, for sure.
I agree with a couple of the others....share info on the NY beauty under the kids quilts.

I have wondered about the minkey. Does it sit still when quilting or did you experience shifting? I love the feel of this fabric and the colors are so delicious.

donnaree59 06-11-2014 04:18 AM

Both are really nice! Love the difference the pattern made using the same fabric.

Caswews 06-11-2014 06:49 AM

Very very pretty !! Thanks for sharing !

I have used minky many times for kids quilts and chemo quilts and never had a problem at all. I lay the minky out on my table and tape it down with duct tape to keep it from shifting while making the sandwich, then smooth out the batting if desired and smooth the top onto that. I have always used saftey pins, but think that I'm going to try basting next time so I don't have to be so constantly aware of removing pins as I go. Be sure to clean your machine afterwards...it can get fuzzed up. Thanks for looking.

Both are very cute! They're going to love them. I agree, quick projects are fun to do. You can actually finish the quilt before you run out of steam and fall out of love with the pattern and/or fabric!
