Two "Quilts for Kids"

4 Attachment(s)
I have occasionally made quilts for the Quilts for Kids organization. They provide quilts to hospitalized children, and you should Google it if you are interested in learning more. A local group has started up in my area, and I got two kits from them to put together. This coral/turquoise one was too bright for me. Look at those borders! I ended up using the back of the turquoise fabric for the sashing since I couldn't stand any more prints. It seemed to scream out for flower quilting, so that's what I did. The brown and green one has bugs and animals. I actually used the back of a fabric for the sashing on this one too. The large border is the same fabric as the sashing, and I thought it was just too much of one fabric. It got an all over meander with ruler work on the borders. Much of the piecing was done on my Featherweight while we were camping in our travel trailer but some of it was on my Bernina 440. The quilting was done on my Sweet 16.

I incorrectly mentioned a website with additional information, a violation of the rules as QuiltnNan very politely pointed out. I will instead give some additional information here. I used a light peach SoFine thread on the crazy one with a light tan SuperBob on the bottom. The animal/bug one was quilted with a YLI variegated thread in brown, gold, and green. It was much heavier than the SoFine, more like a King Tut, but I liked the result. The bindings were finished with either a feather stitch or a 3 step zig zag. QFK requires all work be done by machine, including bindings. I had enough of the backing to use for the crazy one, but I used a tree bark print I had in my stash for the other.

The quilts will be loved, I'm sure. I really like the floral quilting you did in the first one--and love how bright it is. LOL
